hi i need a quick answer,im looking to buy a asus gtx 670 and wanted to know if getting the 4gb version over the 2gb is worth the extra £32 as i only realy play bf3 and wow,but will be getting bf4 when released and thats why im thinking of the 4gb version

Regarding Battlefield 4...

Providing you game at 1080p 2gb should be enough, though you may not have the gpu grunt nor vram required to run x4 AA. For 1440p or higher its looking increasing likely that 2gb will not be sufficient, even with AA disabled. Details might have to be sacrificed at this resolution if these bf4 vram usage benchmarks are accurate.

If all you do is play BF3 and likely BF4 then go AMD! 7950 is equal to/better than the 670 and comes with 3GB VRAM. 2GB is more than enough though, perfect amount for the grunt the 670 etc provides.
 
atm i run at 1080p,but my thinking was to get the 4gb to cover myself if i get a better or another monitor in the near future,i had a 7950 and a kfa 670gtx before that and the 670 ran bf3 better

before or after 12.11 drivers? The new drivers gave a huge boost in favour of AMD, so much so there's nothing between them.

Shame they didn't run the game on 2GB cards to rule out caching, bloody accurate graphs though! Only 300GB between the 780 and 7970 for 1600p without AA. I'll also hazard a guess as this game with all the trinkets at 1600p will be somewhat unplayable <40fps. (Pretty sure that's what BF3 is like now on a 7950?)
 
On current drivers the 7950 boost is still slightly behind a 670 (with both on stock speeds) in BF3, but overclocked they'll both manage over 60fps in ultra, so it doesn't matter a lot. With BF4, there's absolutely no doubt that the 7950 will be the better choice.
 
hmm so going by bf4 favoring amd would it make more sense to go for a 7950 ?,i need a upgrade from my 470gtx and cash is a bit tight atm so only got £250 ish to play with,i aint no fanboy so im stuck with what to go for

as for the drivers i cant remember it was about 7 month ago that i swapped from 670 to 7950
 
£250 would almost get you a 7970... just £10 more.

Otherwise the MSI 7950 Twin Frozr is a brilliant deal right now, £190 I think.

The Alpha was 2gb in size and only included one map. Think you can rule out caching when theres no other maps to cache.

Bf3 is playable at 1440p ultra if you keep AA off providing you clock the 7950. But more grunt is always helpful at this res as im sure you know. 2x7950 grants a very pleasant experience, even at stock on 1440p full ultra with x4aa.

With AMD going on about 2GB isn't enough, plus the partnership with DICE for BF4, I'm pretty sure that the game will at least make very good use of the 3GB.

I bet AMD are doing everything they can to make sure this happens. If it does its going to hurt Nvidia cards pretty badly. Its going to be interesting to see what the actual vram usage is come release. You can't rule out the possibility of the vram usage coming down, but i think its looking unlikely 2gb will be enough at a res of 1440p or higher.
 
If I had a budget of £250 I'd be tempted to get a 7950 now, sell off the games, then when the 7950s drop even further in price (maybe when the 9970 comes out), stick in another.

Then you get a set up that's capable of running two monitors brilliantly and also has enough memory/bandwidth for any game.

I think so. Given those benchmarks you posted the 7950s look to be pretty amazing value, and I figure that if I decide in a year's time to upgrade it'll be much easier to sell off a 7950 each than one 7990. Plus Crossfire looks cooler :)
