Space Hulk!

Shame im so busy at work right now or id buy this in a heartbeat. Will have to wait a couple months but its looking really good so far.

I bought the 3rd edition board game the other month while on a nostalgia trip & had a few games with a mate & loved it all over again, but now this comes out & I'm really in two minds if I should go for it or not anyone here played it yet?

Played it last night, it feels very much like the board game.

It's not easy either - plenty of luck based deaths/victories.

It's a good game, but basic & a little over-priced, if I was counting my pennies I'd wait for it to be in a sale - but if you love warhammer 40k, like hard games & the tabletop then I'd give it a shot.

In feel it's very similar to the old space hulk game on the Amiga.

I believe they will be adding co-operative mode later on (which may expand the content also) so you may get a better deal regarding DLC further down the line.

Most importantly it does have the real feel of danger, as those genestealers can easily one shot a terminator if they get close & you fail the defensive roll.

Typical tactics such as covering corridors with singular terminators on over-watch, flaming small cross-sections with the flamer guy to hold back key areas, closing security doors to give you a chance to move (while they bash through it) - all good fun.

The price really is the only thing keeping my finger off the purchase button right now.

I think it's obvious that the other Space Marine chapter missions are going to show up in paid expansions, which I think would set this one acceptably around £14.99. No more for me.

Yeah, I think in it's current state it should be priced at between £10 & £15 max (due to it being pretty basic & not that long).

Apparently much of the cost is related to cost of getting the Games Workshop licence for 40k (not sure if this is true or not, but what I've read in a couple of places).

Are you coming across any of the bugs I'm starting to see mentioned elsewhere, elmarko? People are mentioning missions counting as failed when they shouldn't, and your guys walking through walls.

It wouldn't surprise me, GW are notorious for over price things and generally being **** when it comes to sales and things.

So far no bugs, but I may be lucky.

The missions sometimes have some odd requirements (like keeping ammo for the flamer on one for example) which caught me off-guard for a mission fail (didn't read it) - but didn't notice any real problems with that so far.

That's what I was thinking, which makes the price a little bit more understandable - either way should be on sale over the next few months.

I think it's pretty well made. I think £10-15 is a reasonable price for it.

One nice feature is the ability to undo (Control+Z) if you make a mistake on a move. Was quite pleased to find that existed!

Everything in that review is easily fixable. The core mechanics are right, and with the level editor coming soon and potential future dlc, the initial outlay should be well worth it.

If the game runs a little ore smoothly combined with an almost unlimited potential for maps and multiplayer and co-op... I should be really happy in 5 months time.

True, and that seems to be the case for a lot of reviews, but I'm not going to drop £22 on what looks like quite a limited game on the basis that it "should be fixed later". It kind of irritates me that it's acceptable to release any game in a state which can be described that way. I also wouldn't want to rely on "potential future DLC" seeing as far as I know they haven't actually announced anything yet.

Too early to make my mind up but I do agree with one review in that there isn't very much tension when using over watch which is the exciting part in my opinion of the board game.

Since release, the game has had 3 patches to correct the majority of bugs. If you are a fan of the old board game then this is a quality game.

Whether it's price represents fair value to you is another matter I guess. Once the co-op multi-player mode and most importantly map editor are patched in (for free) it'll be awesome :)
