NHS stop-smoking service 'a success'

Our trust went smoke free in April this year.

It just means now, the staff have to go and stand on the main road to have a ciggie, which looks professional - driving past seeing a line of NHS professionals having a fag!

And as for the patients, as its a psychiatric hospital, the smoking ban for patients lasted about 2 days before they agreed patients can smoke

Been a waste of time, just means that now when staff go for a ciggie, they are away from the ward / premises longer than they need to be, and may not be around in the event of a kickoff.

Makes no odds to me, I don't smoke and never have.

But e cigarettes don't stop people smoking do they? If you run out of cartridges then I'm sure it won't be long before you end up down the local corner shop for a packet just to tide you over. Also e cigs do nothing to help break the addiction cycle and could actually increase dependence on nicotine.

For me e cigs are preferable to normal cigarettes so long as the user understands that they are not quitting smoking, just using an alternative option.

E-cigs etc just continue the addiction to nicotine, which can't be good for you it's still a chemical you are putting into your body which effects the brain, we don't yet know the dangers of vaping, but I'm guessing its still not great for you. They need to ban smoking entirely I'm public outside or not, I'm sick of walking about having to breath in the disgusting smoke outside shops etc. also vaping needs to be banned inside as well, it looks just as bad as smoking

Nicotine is a natural substance .......its in tomato's they also give it to alzheimer's sufferers and is a stimulant no worse then coffee, its the thousands of other chemicals in burning tobacco that's harmful.
I give up using an e-cig a few years ago and still use one albeit with diminishing nic levels, Vaping is obviously not good for you but neither is walking down the street breathing car fumes! and is far better than smoking.

I object to this statement. You are suggesting something is banned because it looks like something that is harmful. Soon we'll be banning fat people because it looks unhealthy if that line of thinking is pursued.

And yes, vaping is a harm reduction method. It is, however, vastly safer than continuing to smoke, so for those unable to quit using conventional methods, I highly recommend it.

Yeah it looks nasty, plus who knows the passive risks of vaping despite what manufacturers say

Yet an est. 1.3 million people have not smoked in 5 years at a cost of £0.00 to the tax payer thanks to e-cigs and vaping.
I don't understand what point you're trying to make.

Not only have they helped 146,000 people to quit smoking in that 10 year period, consider how many people have also been further put off starting by the campaign.

E-cigs are not quitting?

They still smoke.

Do you mean some vapers still have the odd ciggie or that people who vape exclusively are still 'smoking'?

If it's the first, the same can be said for any quitting device. In fact it's far more likely someone on patches or gum will return to the "one for old times" mentality than the vaper because the former isn't getting the simulation the e-cig user is.

If it's the latter then you need to go back to GCSE Chemistry class and ask what the difference between vapour and smoke is. You can't 'smoke' something that doesn't produce smoke.

It looks nasty? Based on?

As for your second claim, that's bollards. Quite a few independent studies have been done on second hand vapour and nothing dangerous have been found (maybe check out the research done by Dr Michael Siegel). But it's pretty obvious anyway, given there are no known dangerous chemicals in e-liquids then how could it be?

As an ex smoker i feel qualified to express the opinion that:

Vapours - Vapers? are as annoying as the hardcore preaching reformed type ex-smoker.

Does that make me a preaching one ? I didn't think this through :P

Sorry, but just LOL:rolleyes:

a Vaper here and i would be happy if they banned cigarettes now!

as someone said above vaping is far safer than breathing car fumes or other polluted air and should be encouraged - it will save millions of lives.

They have already banned vaping at the hospital I work at, plus uni have banned them and I saw a notice on the bus banning them, keep up the banning as far as I'm concerned!

Either you

a) Work for/have shares in the tobacco industry
b) Work for/have shares in the pharmaceutical industry
c) Get some kind of sexual gratification at the thought of people dying from lung cancer

Which is it?
