La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 - Season 2013-2014 Discussion

Not entirely sure he wasn't just pushing that back to the keeper so he could take the freekick but, throw it too him, or leave it there, dumbass. Shame he didn't score, took it around but managed to just knock it away a yard.

Wow, Betis should be 2-0 up really, 1-0 and playing okay. Betis had MANY really top performances last year and really did excellently in the league, exciting to watch. Alongside Sociedad they were great to watch last year.

EDIT:- I don't think I've ever seen that happen, two own goals, from the same player, both disallowed because of an offside, that CB be trolling Real.

Wow what a bashing Barca gave to their opponents today, 7 goals with Fabregas being at the centre for a few of them. Shame Neymar didnt start today, was looking forward to seeing him play more.

Real lucky to snatch a 2-1 win today as well, Isco scoring a lovely goal off a header. Surprisingly Ancelotti didnt start Casillas but rather opted for Lopez in the goal for Real. Wonder what is going on there with Casillas as he is fit to play.

Should be a good game between Barca and Real when they play, hopefully we wont get all that stupid tension that they have had for the past few yrs.

They will not let Neymar play his game, they will force him to play there style unless he wants a move :D

Yea Isco was impressive through out pre season and in the debut as well.
El Classico will be hell of a match this time.

They will not let Neymar play his game.

Surely they will let him do what he does best. He will have to change his game up to suit the style of the team but at the same time still do what he did to make Barca want to buy him. The only problem I can see coming is that everything will still be played through Messi. Neymar is going to have to put in double time to make an impact. The whole world is expecting Neymar to be the next coming of christ.

Neymar usually takes all the set pieces, corner's, free kick's and penalties for (old) club and country.

Now with Barca he is behind Messi, Xavi and probably Alves too.

He should have went to Milan tbh, he could have just played his own game over there and been the focal point of the team, built around him.

Barcelona have taken some amazing player's in the past tried to shoe horn them in and it just didn't work. Villa was Spain's best striker before he went to Barca, now he's washed up. Hope they don't ruin Neymar and let him play like Ronaldhino did when he was there, but I doubt it.

I agree, I think AC Milan would've been a better fit for him. Once he had proving himself in Europe, a move to Barca would make more sense. Jumping straight into a club where expections are so high that sometimes the pressure can be too much.

Saying all this, Neymar could very well go on and score 20-30 goals in all comps this season. I just think what ever he does, Messi will always take the spot light away from him. Then again, this is kinda like when Messi was coming up the ranks when Ronaldinho was the best player in the world.

Will be interesting to see if they rest Messi for non important games this season and play Neymar instead... It does give them that option which they didn't really have last season.

Villa was Spain's best striker before he went to Barca, now he's washed up. .

Washed up? He has just been giving the task of replacing Falcao. Not exactly washed up.

he was sold for peanuts, he's also a shadow of his former self.

Athletico Madrid have Costa up front as their main man now, Villa is just support. I watched him play last night and he was dropping deep into the midfield to get a touch of the ball.

He was at his best playing Left Striker, so he could cut in from the left wing when he went wide or playing with another striker, Barcelona tried to convert him from a Striker into a Winger to fit their system.

Madrid needed a replacement and he was cheap so they went for him, had Barca wanted a lot more I doubt they would have paid it.

I also doubt he has what it takes to play for Spain again, his best years are behind him.

It's just like watching Barcelona.

Oh It was Barca and Levante were hammered in first half.

Great to see Barca playing with a bit of urgency in first half, something sadly missing for 18 months.

Higher tempo and a little more direct at times looks promising for this year.

Great also to see RM floundering around in defence.

if i heard it right last night, the reason they got villa so cheap was so barca could have first option on one of there young players.

Ramos is also meh defensively and also a thug, just slightly less awful than Pepe in that regard. He's WAY to hot headed to be a top CB, he rushes out, makes bad tackles constantly, does all kinds of stupid things, at right back you can get away with doing that. He's a crazy powerful runner good in the air(though uses his elbows constantly in a nasty way), one of the best threats in the box at offensive set pieces but CB, meh.

Varane is better than both, or he was last year, if he can maintain and/or improve he could be one of the best CB's around for years to come.

Spurs should do everything in their power to leverage him into a deal for Bale if they can. Not least because he'll probably be a 50mil CB in the future.

AS for Villa, Barca let players go for cheap, so do Real, particularly if its a player who has done well for them, is well liked but just didn't get enough chances. No need to upset all of Villa's Spanish team mates by making it difficult for him to leave.

His movement is great and much like Cesc, he was making dozens of runs which got ignored in favour of Inieta and Xavi passing to each other for no reason. If Barca were playing with a better mix of football and making more throughballs like Cesc was using to rip them to shreds yesterday, Villa would have scored crap loads of goals. The team played a very specific way though ,slow, slow, slow PASS IT TO MESSI.

Anyone who thinks he was poor last season needs their head checked.

Lets have a little look, 17 league games started, 10 goals, 5 assists, with very few games being in a row, very little form and rarely (if ever) playing the full 90 minutes,

He did great in the league last year, 5 goals in the Spanish cup, 2 for Spain. 3 goals and 2 assists in 1 start and 2 sub appearances in the confed cup over summer. Sorry but, he was banging them in, with mostly only his lack of minutes on the pitch keeping his goal scoring rate down. The previous season 5 goals/1 assist in 8 starts in the league, plenty more in other competitions for club and country.

For the record, his first season at Barca in the league he got 18 goals at a rate of one goal for every 7.4 shots, at Valencia the year before with 21 goals he had one goal for every 6.6 shots, last year he got a goal for every 4.5 shots......

he's playing a different role, for a different team that was and is entirely focused on getting Messi goals. His shooting was top notch, better than any time in the previous 4-5 years, his movement is top notch, he was assisting well, his interplay was good.

he went to Atletico cheaply because, they are basically the only other team in the league that could afford a high wage player(everyone else being bankrupt and having no consistent european footie money coming in), Barca didn't make it difficult because they would have angered about 80% of the team that love Villa, and Villa did his best in every game and sacrificed his own game to benefit Messi and the team in general.

Spanish Super Cup tonight. Hopefully they play Neymar from the start.

Game kicks off at 10pm which is way past my bed time.

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona Spanish Super Cup 1st Leg 22:00 Sky Sports 4

Barcelona just don't play entertaining enough football for me, keeping hold of the ball, and passing it into the goal is just so boring i find.

I want to see Messi take one 2-3 players then rifle it into the goal from 25+ yards out.

Why aren't more teams using the RDM tactic on them?

Keep 2 short lines of defense stacked in front of them, let them have the ball out wide and just keep the danger areas populated with loads of players.

Defend all crosses with ease due to huge height mismatch and then counter attack with pace, 100% non stop before they get a chance to get back, just keep running up the pitch.

Basically play for the draw and maybe try and nick a goal on the counter, it's better than getting thrashed 7-0.

Becuase they ****** all over Chelsea, on any other day they would have won by nearly double figures........!

I think this is the reality. Chelsea scraped through that game. It was like the United vs City 6 - 1 game in some ways. The scoreline was a representation of one sides desire to win being overcome by the other sides ruthlessness.

Barca needed to score so pushed up too much. United got a goal back and decided to go for more which left us open at the back.

You look at Bayern last season if you want to know how to paste Barca. It does require a very fit, dedicated squad with lots of pace and talent though.
