Nice find neil, on the one hand, good to see Nvidia not sitting idly by and letting AMD ***** slap them with the GE program.
On the other hand though, hoping I'm wrong here(I'll find out for sure when it eventually appears on Uplay), but it's looking like NVIDIA HBAO+ is propriety Nvidia technology from the little info I can find:
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/ar...debuts-in-tom-clancys-splinter-cell-blacklist
If to be so, another slap in the face for some of the PC gaming crowd if you don't succumb to the big green guy.![]()
HDAO is "best" all around, but has a large performance hit for Nvidia cards compared to ATi.
The resolution tested at is 2560x1600 in the screenshots above. HDAO clearly demands more performance than HBAO or SSAO on both video cards. However, it is distinctly more demanding with the GTX 680. The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition doesn't take as big of a hit with HDAO as the GTX 680 does.
Humbug said:Ubisoft will still have to optimise for AMD's architecture if they want to be on consoles.
If you read carfully with they actually say "NVIDIA has officially announced their partnership with game developer Ubisoft to offer the best possible experience on NVIDIA GeForce graphic cards"
Now, to most readers that will read as "they are optimised for Nvidia over AMD" which is exactly what Nvidia want readers to think, in reality what its saying is they are working with Ubisoft to make sure it works properly on their GPU's.... well hello, thats the normal par for course. Go on read it again carefully
Its just Nvidia with classic Nvidia marketing, they are making a lot of noise about nothing to try and look like they are on top of the game with everything moving in AMD's direction.
The simple fact is every game from now on from every developer will work best on AMD because THAT is the architecture they now have to optimise for, All Nvidia can do is run around making sure it still works on their architecture....and use that as yet another marketing ploy.
Is this going to turn into another Green vs Red thread?

Is hbao+ going to be another one of those features you can't notice but will kill your frame rates anyhow?
In all honesty, on bf3, the only difference I notice between hbao and ssao is frame rates, the game doesn't physically appear any better or worse for me.

At least its not as bad as FXAA ^^
FXAA hardly affects my framerate at all, it does however look horrible.

That was my point, impacts FPS and reduces visual quality![]()

It doesn't really have any noticeable affect on FPS though. I wouldn't say it reduces quality
in those games its people usually turn it off as it makes the game look worse, kinda like the Nintendo 64's full screen blurr filter of ewww.Im guessing you haven't played Diablo III or Guildwars 2 then?in those games its people usually turn it off as it makes the game look worse, kinda like the Nintendo 64's full screen blurr filter of ewww.
It is but never fear tommy AMD's version using DirectCompute is (apparently) better, HDAO. Seeing as farcry 3 (which Ubisoft made) supports both HBAO and HDAO i expect (hope) this will be the same for other Ubisoft games.
I asked Humbug to contact AMD Roy and ask why Ubisoft switched sides, but his reply to me got me thinking. Actually it seems like they haven't switched sides after all, its just clever marketing.
