Ants in garden.

On a serious note. Killing ants is a war, there will be several battles so you need to keep at it.
The most effective approach i've found is the ant killer that has sugars in it, they go for it and eat it and/or carry it back "home". Use that stuff for a while then boiling water, but never at the same time.

Don't bother with boiling water - you only kill the ants you see. You need them to ferry poison back to the nest. Once the nest is dead, all the ants will disappear. If you still have ants, you still have a nest.

We had an ants nest in a rockery in the middle of my Dad's lawn when he bought his last house. We cleared the stones and soaked diesel into the ground (the tunnels make it quite porous) and then ... whoopf. Given that you're near your house, perhaps this isn't the wisest move - I should add that we were re-seeding the lawn anyway :p

Other than that, repeated treatments with ant powders do work eventually. When you dig the area over afterwards you can see the powder has been carried down into the tunnels quite effectively.

We had ants coming in the sitting room, granma had ant all over her kitchen.

We bought those little nippon "pucks", little plastic housing full of poison.
2 in a pack for about £3

2 weeks later, no ants.

They were very effective.

As above I think they carry the poison back to the colony and it kills them at the source.

I had the same opinion until the buggers started running over my feet when I walked on the lawn in bare feet. Now the little suckers get powered to death.

Nippon poison is pretty effective. Get the refillable one as you'll need to reapply daily with a drop or two.

While ants may not me the most harmful of garden pests they do ruin paved areas and lawns, and undermine roots causing growth suppression and possible disease.
