Argentina Nationalism (again)

Argentina are digging their own grave. What business would look to invest in the country when they could easily lose it to nationalisation ie Repsol.

The destroyer, which was retired from active service in 2004, took on water at the Puerto Belgrano naval base after a six-inch pipe burst, the navy said.

The minister later said, however, that he was surprised that the ship sank quickly while it was moored at the port.

First it started listing, he said. "So the breakdown must have been major, or someone opened a value to sink it," he said.

Puricelli ordered the navy to launch an investigation, and said he harboured doubts because the ship was not that old, dating back just to the 1970s.

Authorities had planned to turn the 125-meter ship into a museum.

The vessel is significant historically because it unloaded a team of divers at Puerto Enriqueta on April 1, 1982, the day before Argentine troops invaded the British-controlled Falkland islands .

Are the Argentines still only allowed a limited daily cash withdrawal because the Govt. stole froze all their Bank Accounts? :p

Did you see that one of their warships recent sank in it's harbour?

They had another Navy vessel seized by a US Hedge Fund while it was docked in Africa...

They should be careful tbh... this doesn't sound particularly legal and the airline could take legal action against them - not to mention the signal it sends to potential investors in the country.

Would be interesting to see what other assets they get seized in future.... Was quite amusing that investors could force an Argentine Navy Training vessel to be seized (albeit temporarily).

If only because of the Falklands, I'll be laughing when their economy finally gives up the ghost. Complete ineptitude at government level.

This is good news for the UK. There is definitely a barrier for UK firms breaking into the South American market caused by Argentina's neighbours trying to show some solidarity over the Falklands issue. If Argentina turns on its neighbours then this issue will go away and we should be able to start exporting more to this potentially huge market.
