what 670 to buy?

Sounds like you have a similar dilemma to me... Not sure whether or not 2GB ram will be enough myself, but it's not jus that it's also the question of if a game does require more than 2GB ram will a single card GTX670 (or even GTX 680) even be able to play smoothly at those detail settings?

cant say im a fan of switching to AMD, not that the GPU's arn't great its just personal prefrence.

Can the 670 not make used to the 4gb? (Seems some reviews suggest this). Alright so my original post still stands, which one to buy?

MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr Power Edition vs. Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Gamer

Thanks for all the help guys

Well someone kinda asked the same thing on here, they went with the 4gb as a future proof thing due to bf4 other games they liked might end up needing more vram.

I'm in the same way but going for 670 4gb from a amd 7770 so a nice big upgrade and no stutter in games.

I keep seeing people say that there is no point in getting 4gb as the cards arent fast enough to use it all, dont know how true it is though

Not unless your going SLi and multimonitor no, basically the higher the game settings then the more ram is needed for storing the textures and AA and stuff, but also the more GPU grunt is needed for actually running the game, and as the settings reach imba levels the GTX670 runs out of grunt (and has ot lower settings to maintain playable FPS) before hitting ram limitation.

Hi read this from an article:

'Right now 2GB is about all you need for 1920x1080. If you're looking to go 2560x1440 or multi-monitor, then you really should consider SLI/Xfire or at least 3GB of Vram or more. However, getting a GTX Titan is a bad idea because it's a hybrid professional/gaming graphics card. There are applications out there in the professional world where it can use 6GB of Vram without requiring a lot of graphical horse power to support it. In gaming, 6GB of textures would require TWICE the power the titan has to execute. A card like a GTX 770 4GB isn't a BAD idea, but note, it probably won't be able to utilize the 4GB but it should be able to handle more than 2GB with ease given the improvements in the GK104 architecture.'

Now this article says the 770 4Gb will be able to handle more than 2Gb with ease, how much more mmm.... the 670 4Gb will be a little less powerful so draw your own conclusions.

Hope this helps. :)

Going by the above article, if a higher clocked 770 can use more than 2GB, then the lower clocked slightly less shader variant 670 can too, as they share the same gpu/256 vbus setup.

Generally a single 670 won't push high enough fps if it needed more than 2Gb@1080p, you would need 2 or more, but for those that don't upgrade often, £20 is a small price to pay 'just in case' that extra 200mb is all it takes to be playable or not with 2xAA extra on top of what the 2Gb version can achieve.

Hmm this is a lot of information to take in :D I will be overclocking the GPU probably the moment i get it like the 3570k. In situations such as overclocking then it seems 4GB for an extra £20 odd should be worth it?

Also at the moment I only have a LG Flatron 720p monitor but will be stepping upto a 1080p by Christmas hopefully

Hmm just saw the Asus GTX 670 4GB at £230 and I do like the look of it.

Is it true that Nvidia also has better frame latency than AMD, therefore using an Nvidia card makes games appear smoother?

Unless some mega deals happen on some GTX 680/7970 I think I too will go for a GTX 670 4GB or a 7950 3GB but I'm still completely undecided. I have no brand loyalty so not fussed what I use to be honest.

Not in single card mode, if anything, like for like 7970 v 680, AMD have better frame times.

At the pricing of the 670's(whether it's 2/4Gb)/7950's on offer, they are all fantastic options all fitting in nicely, ultimately imho the 7950 is a touch faster with an extra 1Gb/higher vbus for futureproofing, v's the 670's PhysX capability.

If the 2Gb limit is to be busted with inbound titles, you are probably talking the difference of 2xAA/doubtful but at the very most 4xAA, at the end of the day, the 670 isn't going to remotely become unplayable.

Looks like Ill probably just be getting the 2GB version, to be fair its 100% faster and has 100% more capacity than my GTS 450 1GB. and In the event of FPS slowdowns i dont mind turning the AA down slightly + never use motion blur for games like BF3 it really messes with my eyes

Thanks for all your help peeps!
