Hi all, I bought the Z68X P-UD3P off OC in the cheap section.

Now it fits Gen two intels but says nothing about gen 3 intels on the box. I know there's a bios update that says.

Support Intel 3rd generation 22nm E1 stepping CPU (Ivy bridge)
Improve power on issue

Thats F7 of the bios updates on Gigabytes website.

So would updating the bios to F7 mean I could run any Gen 3 intel?

Yes, thats correct.

But you would need a older chip to be able to update the BIOS (Assuming the board has a older BIOS)

What revision do you have? its either 1.0 or 1.3.

It should say in the bottom left corner of the pcb.

What you will find if you use F7 is that you are limited by how far you can overclock the Ivybridge CPU as you cant raise the cpu multiplier/turboratios further than the maximum turboboost speed of the CPU (38X for a 3570K)

to go higher you need to flash one of the UEFI bioses (U1G), but then you may have limited voltage or load line calibration control.

The URL don't work.

See Stulids reply above, you can go with a UEFI BIOS update, I use on my board, I have the UD4 version.

With just running the F7 bios update, what speeds could I expect from a 3.4ghz GEN 3 I5?

Am aiming for 4ghz.

If its a 3570K then 38X is the maximum selectable ratio.

So 38 x 100MHz = 3.8GHZ.

You maybe able to increase the BCLK a bit so 38 x 104Mhz = 3.952GHz

But even 104Mhz BCLK is maybe being a bit optimistic.

Ah I see, Well I think I'll run F7 to get it up and running and then check the thread you sent me.

Well I got my gen 3 today.

Of course running F7 ran into its issues already.

I'll be updating the bios when I feel I wont break it.

I installed the U1G today but can't access the bios?

It just seems to freeze with my mouse in the middle, Unable to move the mouse and nothing loads.

Windows starts fine and am typing to you on the computer, It even says its installed and intel software is telling me I can overclock it past what I could in F7.

So whats causing bios to freeze?

Yeah, pull it out for a few minutes (go make a cup of tea) and then refit and power back on.

Hammer the DEL key and see what happens again.
