New Golf Mk7

I was "following" a mk5 R32 the other day, easy to forget what a brilliant noise these things make.

The mk5 doesn't seem to be as well liked as the mk4 but I personally much prefer it.

I took my Corrado on a track day recently, along with a number of other corrado club members. Admittedly it's an earlier incarnation of the engine but the sound of another VR6 coming past at full chat was something I will remember for a long time. I think she must have had the needle right over. Fantastic sound.

I loved the sound my corrado vr6 made but my mk3 with supersprint exhaust was even better - the R32 turns it up a notch again though, especially from the outside. I was following him with the window open a little bit. Love my M54 engine but it can't compete sound-wise

I have a mk 4 GTI 1.8T that I bought new in 1998. We did 600 miles in it last week, still a nice place to be.
Went to see about a new one on Wednesday and was horrified at the nasty diamond cut wheels that seem to loose their laquer and gain the white worm very quickly.

The sales girl said that they would be covered for 3 years and should not expect problems for 10 years. My existing 15 year old wheels are virtually as new.

I need to look elsewhere........

So the new R is effectively the same car as the new S3, even down to the quad pipes. Who would pick the golf over the Audi?!

My mk6 drives far, far nicer than my old mk4 and it's a nicer place to sit. But the mk4 was built to a much higher quality.

Personally I prefer the look of the Golf.

I agree about the better build quality on the Mk 4. When the Mk 5 R32 came out I really wanted to buy one and had lots of test drives but I felt the interior was a step backwards from the Mk 4. In 2007 Audi brought out the S3 Mk 2. I borrowed one for a couple of hours and went straight back and put my order in. I am now considering a Bluefin for this car in order to take it to over 3oo bhp. I like the idea of being able to return it to stock when ever I need to.
