Bradley Manning - 35yrs in the slammer :(

I've not been following the whole thing too closely in all honesty and this is the first I've heard of it. Sorry! O_o

So will he get transferred to a women's jail or will he be doomed to suffer massive anal devastation for the duration of his incarceration?

I imagine he will not be given the opportunity to 'change' in the first place, so will most likely be housed in a normal mens prison.

The summation of all the information along with other leaked info, the usa is trying to control the planet under the cloak of democracy, everything they do is for themselves and to hell with every other human on the Earth that stands in the way.

Quite dramatic sure, but its essentially true.

That is not what the leaks show. But let us pretend it does: Which specific leak do you think best highlights this?

All Bradley Manning has shown is what a hypocrite he is.

If he really believed in what he had done, he should not have been apologetic at his trial even if this resulted in a longer sentence.

Apparently he's looking to start hormone therapy in order to become a woman. Is this some sort of clever plan to avoid military prison and be placed in a woman's prison instead?

I think he's wanted to do that for a long time but it's not like he could do it while he was being tried.

Well hes gonna be some big meat heads bitch in prison anyway so me might as well go all the way for maximum pleasure, I'm sure ole Tombo is a tad jealous of the things they will get upto :D:D:D:eek:

I am so trolled by you insinuating I'm gay right now. To be expected of someone with your thought capabilities.

He got over his pride for the chance to see the outside world ever again, I'm not sure I can condemn him for that. Not that I think he will, he'll probably commit suicide at some point.

In America it seems justice is backwards when it comes to government and security, they do something clearly wrong and the people reporting it lose their career, get jail time or worse, like the police there do all sorts of criminal stuff and get paid leave if its found out, signs there's something deeply wrong with the system, it isn't working in our best interests thats for sure.

I'm thinking the ladyboy is going to be enjoying himself with Bubba.

So if you were in his position and witnessed your country commuting atrocities against innocent human beings, you would just sit back and let them? I very much doubt he swore an oath to allow his government to get away with war crimes.

What atrocities did he reveal?

lets face it - the guy is a bit of a gimp... maybe he was bullied and left feeling isolated/frustrated while away on tour and decided to vent his frustration.

I doubt it was a completely noble act... its not like the cables were covering anything specific or he'd chosen to reveal particular cables for some more specific reason or other - the guy released a whole bunch en mass covering a whole range of topics....

Hardly surprising he's getting locked up for it, they've got laws to protect sensitive information - it doesn't set a good precedent if they don't enforce them.

This. I'm signatory to and bound by the OSA and there are severe consequences in breaking that irrespective of whether I agree with it or not.

Everyone is bound by the OSA.... signing a bit of paper when you join the police, armed forces etc.. is just a formality - you were already bound by it anyway.

Why is it a requirement to sign it if I'm bound by it anyway ? Whether I agree with something or not is moot and what I may see or hear or read that is not meant for public dissemination stays that way.

At a guess to say you fully understand the law.
There's thousands of laws and general population does not understand most of them.
Hence I expect it was explained what you could and could not do and signed to say you understand you are bound by such laws.

That is true, it's a law, so as you say everyone is already bound by it. It just that most people would never come into contact with any information covered by the OSA unless they've signed the OSA.
He would have been bound under much tighter restrictions than that though, as I and many people in the Armed forces etc are, such as SC or DV, in some cases read onto STRAP for some material. He will have most certainly been covered by such restrictions.

Indeed. Why the hell would you keep quiet? We all know that America has committed numerous war crimes, but they're easily swept under the carpet because when they're mentioned, the media reports them, and then never mentions them again. Being the most powerful, and apparently ethical, country in the world has its benefits.

I think what Manning, and Lasange, and anyone else who'd like to expose war crimes, is commendable.

Further to that, just because it's against the law, doesn't mean that the law is correct, or that you shouldn't go against it.

Respect, lol. He did this for himself and like most criminals thought he could escape. It was not for the greater good.

Read that the other morning, and thought, Lol. I'll wait this out and see.

Very strange to announce he wants to be a woman, I would think all the stuff he wants to do to achieve that is nigh on impossible in prison.

Then saw the news this morning and Lol'd. Wonder how some of the OcUK members feel now.

a very sad day for 'modern society'.

The fact that some men want to be women and some women want to be men? some blacks want to be white and some whites want to be black?

Does nobody really say how fricked up the human race really is at the moment?

Glaucus has the gist of it: it means if you break the law you get a heavier sentence than someone who had not signed it. While ignorance is not a defence, and certainly not of a law as well-known as the OSA (yes, signed it as well), the length of sentence will reflect the fact that your actions were "wilful".
