msi p67a g45 and 3570k nightmare

strangest thing, i had a thought, i whipped out my 670 and popped in my old gtx 460, and it bloody works, how strange is that, so why is it the 460 will work with the 3570k but the 670 wont?

bios conflict I would say im guessing at gen 3 speed on the 670 the other cards are gen 2 pcie

It could be something else but it should work

My money is on that your bios is set at gen 2 when your card is gen 3 when running with a 3570k. I had the same issue when running my 670 at gen 3 on my RIVF when it should have been gen 2. I also nearly threw it out of the window until I found the issue.

im stumped tbh, it works a treat with the 460, but just cant get dam 670 to work with it. cant see any options in bios for gpu, whats strange is the i3 will work with the 670, just cant see any reason why the i5 wont tbh

i felt like that last couple of days, got no hair left, pulled it all out. anyone know how i can fix the issue, as im not the brightest, so thicko terms will come in handy

try and test with dvi vga if you can,it could be problem with hdmi

idk how you'd do that though with no monitor that has those ports

could try emailing msi and tell them the issue your having, they might send you a modded bios to test with

ohh and you have time to build outside the pc so you can test with other pcie slot

it will, while your waiting id try the above, you have nothing to lose

you are a genuis, i sorted cables earlier to gave me room for the other slot, i just popped it in, when you said and bingo!!!
now shes flying and a decent cpu to go with the 670

all hail!!

thank you

well this morn got it working in x16, but sumit isnt right as my 3dmark is lower in x16 than it is in x8,lol cant wait for that z68, hopefully will help sort issues

seems strange

could do with a new board anyway tbh, but theory is now, that someone msi forums said than because my psu is multi rail, it might not be supplying enough, i would have thought the GX550 would have been enough to run the system. but saying that, ive disconnected the dvd rw and maybe that little power left off has given enough to run these pair barely, new board is here anyway, so gona pop the i3 in, fully update bios and go from there, if its still same, sort of points at the psu

looks like it was indeed the sh1tty msi board, fited new gigabyte z68 this morn, updated bios for ivybridge, formatted, reinstalled everything, and we have lift off, no issues what so ever, 3dmark is fine, only a few points higher than it was in x8 pcie, but wouldnt expect a huge impact, but system is stable

sumit strage though, looks like the i5 had downclocked itself on the msi
3d mark compare

that's good then,i knew it would work on the gigabyte

ive seen a few issues with msi bios, seems to be poorly updated atm

keep the z68 as you'll have onboard graphics should you ever need it

3dmark doesn't always detect/display correct clock speed

its hit and miss if it shows overclocked or stock clocks, the score looks ok to me for an oc cpu
