Budget fridge freezer

I'm looking for a cheap fridge freezer to replace the ageing one we currently have.

Must haves:

70/30 or thereabouts split
Ice cube tray
Tall as possible

Other than that I'm not hugely fussy. Colour etc doesn't matter much as whatever it is won't match the beech units in the kitchen.

The problem is I only have a few hundred quid to spend as it's been an expensive month, so budget is probably about £300.
I've been looking at both new and used stuff on Ebay but nothing is jumping out at me. I don't have internet in the new house yet so online shopping and browsing is a bit of a chore.

I did consider doubling the budget and getting an American style fridge freezer but I'm concerned about the plumbing - my kitchen had the door opening between the plumbing and where the fridge would go, making a plumbed in fridge tricky to fit.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

I have a Bosch fridge freezer, it has led display, alarms, seperate controls for each, which is better than single control, so flexible, so if your on holiday, you can switch off the fridge & just leave freezer running.

It's been superb, still works perfectly, even though it's nearly 12 years old, & very cheap to run.

They start over your budget, but my Bosch, it has been 100% reliable, & has out lived a Zanussi I had, which only just lasted 4 years before exploding.

Our customers love the Indesit BIAA12, giving it a very high star rating. The combined 272 litres is quite big, with a slightly larger fridge than freezer. What’s great is the freezer has ice cube trays integrated into the drawer fronts, freeing up space and making it quicker to grab ice cubes. The A+ energy rating is really efficient, so you won’t pay more than 9p a day to run it. With recessed handles, it avoids having any bulky handles sticking out. Available in white or silver.

I'd love a Bosch but they're out of my range for this particular appliance, cheers for that link SDK.

No brand suggestions, but from a money saving point of view:

Freecycle. I got a pretty good fridge freezer from there a few years ago, clean and functional.

Also, try the collection only ebay search (just google it) and put in your post code and range, that will help with reducing cost once you've decided what brand you want.

I wouldn't touch a Hotpoint or Indesit with a barge pole, their failure rates are shocking at the moment.

You would be mad to buy a graded fridge freezer too.

What were the fridges that were catching fire many months back? Was it Candy? I currently have a frost free Samsung Fridge Freezer for over 5 years and has been fine. I dont think I could go back to a freezer that clogs up with ice although I do recall fun times stabbing at it with a knife ;)

beko actually make really good budget freezers
beko is particularly noted in Europe for its freezers and fridge-freezers which are guaranteed to operate in unheated garages, sheds and other outbuildings down to -18°C (0°F) .
unlike most manufacturers ;) that have an operating range only as low as 10c+

I've got on that cost about 250 I think was supposed to be temporary but it's a nice solid frost free fridge/freezer just lacks an lcd display and digital controls or it would be perfect

I think the one I have is
Beko CF5533APW

more than big enough for 2 people even though it's pretty much 50/50 split
Colour: White
Capacity (Gross): Fridge 138 litres/Freezer 100 litres
Energy Rating: A+
Requires 5mm clearance on either side of appliance
Reversible Door
Suitable For Garages: Operates In Outside Temperature Down To -15C

Beko CF5533APW Frost Free Fridge Freezer Dimensions
Height: 1535mm
Width: 545mm
Depth: 600

I don't think you will get a much bigger freezer for 300 unless you get one that is NOT frost free

We got a Beko fridge freezer from the guys in purple shirts. I think it cost us under 200 notes. Granted it's only been running 5 years but we've never had a problem with it for the price.
