Hey.

The future wife wants to go to NY for the honeymoon, she only has 3ish days free due to work around that part of the year so we would be going on the 31 and arrive back on the 4th.

Where would be the best place to stay thats close to the touristic parts? I dont want to spend a fortune on cab fair.

Also any clue on the value of decent grub?

Any advice will be great.

I would suggest staying in somewhere like Rutherford in NJ. Nice town, cheap hotels, and the bus ride to Time Square is less than $10 each. Takes about an hour. My suggestion. Don't stay in New York.

I stayed here for 1 night once.

It's not the nicest, big spacious rooms with air con. The bus stop is outside the parking lot. So if you treat it as a place to crash only. Then yea, cheap and cheerful :)

Thanks for advice so far.

it would need to be in NY where we stay, i don't wish to be taking hour bus rides here and there due to the time constraints that go along with a short stay.

The Budget is around £1500 for flights and hotel for the two of us and £800 spending money. Would get us a Lovely all inclusive holiday some place warm but NOO we have to go to NY lol

Will have a look at that Hilton, Thanks rotty

Trump Soho. One of my favourite hotels - very very much enjoyed my stay there.

Btw, taxis are a lot cheaper than hotels, food, tourism tickets etc. You won't even notice the taxi bill!

EDIT: Oh, I think you mean you want to stay in Manhattan - definitely do that. I wouldn't consider anything else.

EDIT2: Four nights plus flights for two for £1500 is tight for a good Manhattan hotel at this notice tbh.

It's very similar to central London.

Just a heads up that you'll be looking at ballpark £600pp for return flights, which is obviously £1200 for two people. That doesn't leave a massive margin for 4 nights in a hotel from the rest of your budget.

Well I'm not going to spend more for a 4 day holiday tbh.

I wont be staying in Manhatten, It has to be in NY close to the touristic stuff, I should have said i have a Broken back and i will struggle to sit / walk much even at that time.

I dont know where anything is in the USA, I dont like the place so never looked at the maps for it haha

Personally I like to stay in the Village or Meat Packing district. Its away from the Times Square crowd but has some of the best bars, clubs and restaurants around. Its the hip chic area of Manhattan. Very good access to the metro which is cheap, clean, safe and reliable.

Dreams Downtown is a very lively modern hotel, I have stayed there twice and been pleased both times.

You should be able to get flights for £400 pp if you shop around and keep an eye out for sales.

I stayed in Pod 51 hotel. Great location and cheap for manhattan. Rooms are small (but not crazy Japanese style pods) but clean and quiet.

I managed 5 nights in Manhattan inc flights for two people for £1500

Seems mental for just 4 days. I'd wait until you have more time available, it wont cost proportionally much more to go for more time.

Or take unpaid leave, you are probably not exactly skint if you can justify £1500 for a 4 day city break. You'll have a better time if you go for longer and can explore further afield, too.

Whilst the idea of staying outside of NYC is a good one, you have to be absolutely joking at the idea of a 1 hour each way BUS ride?! You want to spend 2 hours a day sat on a bus?

If you want to stay somewhere nice but at far less cost than central Manhattan look at Newark instead - the Hilton at Penn Station is right above the station and the train to Penn Station just up the road from Times Square takes 12 minutes, not 60!!

Candlewood Suites in Jersey, practically on waterfront across the Hudson. 10 minutes walk to a Path station, 15 minutes Path ride to WTC and subway connections. Very spacious place with all amenities needed.

Unfortunately, from what I can tell, none of those will meet his budget while not being in the middle of nowhere.

Some of the hotels listed are in the Broadway - Times Square area, which might be considered pretty central. It depends on where the OP wants to go in NYC, I guess.

We're going to NYC in January, staying at the Edison on Times Square and flying with Virgin £1.5k for the pair of us for a Monday to Sunday deal
