Golden chip?

^^^yh looks ok

I can do 4.5ghz @ 1.15v pass ibt but need 1.212v to be stable with gaming if below that games would crash to desktop

tbh i did a basic oc when i set this up (offset .005) seems whatever multi i throw at it it's worked but never wanted more than 4.4 when i set out to do this build so never looked into doing a higher one

It depends what it takes to be stable at 5ghz really imo fo a golden cpu. I would say a 3570k 4.7ghz @ 1.23v if prime95 12hrs stable is decent, but not golden.

Golden would be more like being able to do 5ghz at or around 1.30v and being prime95 stable. Heres my cpu, lowest bootable vcore not p95 stable.

I tried booting at 5ghz and it BSOD with 0x50 error, pagefault. Can't seem to get past this no matter what I try.

My two ib cpu's were pretty poor clockers, 1.320 vcore to be fully game stable and whea error free on the 3570k. My 3770k was still erroring in certain programs at 1.340v, both chips were at 4.5ghz. Hoping for much better results with the 4770k.

So form 4.7 and 1.23v to 5ghz I need more than 135v? screw that, maybe one day if I delid it.
and funds permitting maybe one day upgrade that cooler to a D14 /Phanteks or maybe Corsair AIO. The chips sounds like it could last you a few years so it maybe in your interest to keep it as far below 80c if wanting to get nearer to 5Ghz.

Is that 4.7 1.23v prime95 stable? My chip can run 4.9ghz at 1.404, but 5ghz needs more like 1.45v, from like 4.6ghz onwards the jump in vcore needed per 100 mhz increases massively for some reason.

Best 3770K i ever had did 5Ghz at 1.36v, forget what offset but hovered around 1.38v unloaded in cpuz and 1.36v under heavy load, 100 ibt and 48hr prime stable. De-lidded with NHD14, temps around 82C loaded. Needed almost 1.45 for 5.1Ghz though! and temps on air were a no go.

Such a shame that intel gimp theese chips. If you get a decent clocker, you have to improve the product yourself by delidding. It's like going into the local honda motorbike dealership. Yes ill have a 1000cc bike, but then you have to buy brakes that work on the dammed thing. Because what is supplied isnt upto the task.

Thats a nice chip, mine needs 1.404v for 4.9ghz, but its lapped and delidded.

Its all about the Benjamins :D I do wish they would at least use different quality TIM/spread it better or solder the IHS on K chips but its never going to happen as overclockers are a minority :(

Didn't bother with lapping, but delidding did take off about 15C off the hottest core. Needed too much volts for 5.1Ghz sadly, so its one of those chips that clock well with low volts and suddenly reaches a plateau and needs gobs more vcore for little gains..

I think as chip production gets more consistent you tend to have less 'golden' chips, but this has a good side as generally these days you're pretty much guaranteed a good 'average' chip and less duds and know what to expect. I've had maybe 5 'golden' ones since Sandybridge onwards and that's with maybe 500+ cpus going through my hands, must've been from the dead centre of the wafer :)
