Arctic Cooling Accelero Hybrid[AIR/H2o] GTX 680 Review

Arctic Cooling Accelero Hybrid[AIR/H2o] GTX 680-

We installed the Accelero Hybrid cooler on our GTX 680 card in just over an hour with minimal profanity, this cooler cost $110.

Its a good cooler actually, having used one on my 7970. The core cooling is great, the problem lies with the vrm cooling. All you have is this tiny little 92mm fan blowing air onto the vrms/vram chips. As a result they get hot and you end up being limited by the vrm temps. Arctic also gives you permanent adhesive to stick the heatsinks to the vrm/vram chips. It is very difficult, but not impossible, to get the heatsinks off afterwards without damaging the card.

If Arctic can sort out the problems ive listed above then this would be much easier to recommend.

Hi Lt, due to build a new PC soon looking forward to see how the Asus ROG GTX 770 Hybrid[AIR/H2o] GPU performs.

Its good and better than your typical reference air coolers. Its great for small to large overclocks. But it can't really handle extreme overclocks because of the problem with the vrm cooling. This may affect AMD cards more than Nvidia though.

You can use thermal akasa tape instead of the permanent adhesive arctic provide. I'd strongly recommend this unless you're comfortable using elbow grease, pliers and lots of lighter fluid on your gpu to remove the adhesive+heatinks. The thermal tape peels off quickly and does not leave a mess on the pcb.

I'd love to get an Accelero Hybrid for my 7970 to replace the Windforce cooler, but sadly nowhere in the UK has then and even Arctic list it now under "Discontinued products" on their website. I could use a standard Hybrid and a shim, but reports are that the shim (and extra contact layer/paste) adds 10C, which kind of defeats the point.
