The wife is after a karaoke machine for the family to use so just thought on here is probably the beat place for good recommendations.

What's the best under £100 please any ideas

Mate, one rendition of Mariah Carey's "I can't live if living is without you" and you'll regret it.

A more wise investment will be to set fire to the money and then rub the ashes all over yourself.

Probably not what you're after, but I've found Ultrastar on the PC very good, all you need is microphones. Takes some fiddling to get it to work though.

Looooooooooooove the Karaoke...

I started off with an 'all in one' set from 'well known auction site'.

This included a DVD / CD-G player with microphone inputs and echo effects. It came with 2 DVDs of karaoke songs, 2 x wireless microphones and songs-choice book.

I then purchased several more CD-G discs.

Now I use my PC or Netbook and have stored my collection as MP3+G which is the MP3 equivalent for Karaoke files. I use Locate32 to search through my collection by song title or artist. And use an old version of Winamp with the CDG Plugin to play the files.

In between all that I purchased a DJ rig, 2 pa speakers and stands, lighting and a huge sub, mixer, mic echo effect and more wireless mics. I got carried away.

You are bound to have a local DJ/Disco shop so I'd go in and get some expert advice on what you actually need.
If they have the same unit in Argos for cheaper then go for it.
However think about your neighbours and what you might be putting them through.
I have enough music gear to equip 3 full bands but my neighbours have never heard me in the 30 years I've lived here.

AST-100 set - very convenient system, sounds great, easy to extend. What is important - there are no moving parts on the outside, of course, a risk that is broken off or missing, and the problem of dust optics.

I've been having fun on this site recently...

Much better than a Karaoke machine as it detects your tone and tells you how accurate you are, giving you a score and a rating at the end of each song (My top score is 7580 by the way ;)).

It's like a karaoke version of those Guitar Hero type games. You can also "battle" people from all over the world and record & edit your efforts.

My sister's 40th is coming up in a few months and I'm partly responsible for the entertainment so instead of hiring a karaoke machine I'm going to get a projector and take a laptop and just use this, way more fun than normal karaoke.
