Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24 - 26th August 2013]

Swansea will struggle to score this season. Their poor run carries on from last season.

Spurs fix their common problem of conceding goals but now they can't get the ball in the back of net. Hope Lamela signs and changes all that.

Very poor from us. Missing our two starting CB's didn't help but we were hardly playing the kids in defence and there is no excuses from how they defended those corners.

Interesting quote from David Platt on Al Jazeera: "If Mancini and I were still at City, Hart wouldn't be there. We decided to sign Asmir Begovic."

After Mancini criticised Hart in Madrid there has been friction there and if Mancini was still in charge its not surprising that we would have sold him purely so Mancini didn't have him in the team anymore.

What Spurs are really lacking now is a creative number 10. I dont't think that Lamela is going to change that. We need another Van der Vaart.

This, without him they cant defend for ****, what a win for Cardiff though...epic absolutely epic.

Was hoping Swansea would have at least got a point from the Spurs game but as i said 2 games in and they dont look very good at all sadly. No doubt they will come to the Emirates and give us a hiding:p
We didn't played well today, but I can't see how you can say we don't look good at all. For 30 mins, we were the better team against utd until RVP decided to be RVP and realistically we weren't expected to beat Spurs. Had we lost to Hull and Crystal Palace I'd agree, but I think the Europa league is hurting us.

Are you having a laugh? We won't set the world alight, but I don't expect us to finish bottom 6.

Have a look at our fixture list.. There's not many that people would say we should win out of these.. 2 of the 6 games, and that's if you were to say we're a better team than West Brom. I can see us bottom or bottom 3 until mid-season.

Swansea v Manchester Utd
Tottenham v Swansea
West Brom v Swansea
Swansea v Liverpool
Crystal Palace v Swansea
Swansea v Arsenal

Bony looked decent the other week and Swansea have a core of good players too, I reckon they'll finish in the top half even with the Euro distraction, provided they keep hold of Michu and Williams.

It has nothing to do with Hart gradually getting worse and worse?

[...] but I think the Europa league is hurting us.
I don't agree; It's not had a chance to hurt us yet. Firstly, 2 competitive matches before the Premier League kicks off is a good thing, not a bad thing. Secondly, Spurs also had a Europa game on Thursday [a distant away game!], so it's not like we were disadvantaged compared to our opposition.

We won't set the world alight, but I don't expect us to finish bottom 6.
Me neither. But I think it's clear to any Swans fan that Laudrup needs to seriously reconsider the validity of the "play Michu as the lone striker against the stronger teams" tactic. It's clearly not an effective solution. You only need to look at our results after the new year, when Danny Graham left*, to see that.

* Don't actually look at our post-Graham results. It'll only depress.

Well, He wasn't playing as well as he did in 2011-12 but last season but he certainly wasn't have a terrible season I don't think.
I don't think it was his performances that were the reason Mancini wanted to get rid.

The spat that Mancini and Hart had wouldn't have gone down well with the players because of how big a part of the team he is and how popular he is with the other players. I can see Mancini being fearful that if he kept Hart around he would start undermining him and turning the squad against him.

If Mancini could have won the FA Cup final then he would have been able to replace Hart with Begovic without much question (Consider that he would be coming off the back of 2 Fa Cups and a prem inside 3 seasons) and in doing so removing the player he felt posed the biggest threat to himself.

Lamela is exactly what you need. I say get him before that other team steals your player out of spite. At least Bale isn't forcing his way out, maybe he'll stay for another year just to annoy Chelsea.

Swansea have sucked since their League Cup win, I think you'll lose all those games you've listed.

Not massively shocked City lost. I have no idea at all why everyone was gushing about City pasting what was a dejected and shockingly bad Newcastle last week. It was laughable how poor Newcastle were and City still laboured in a 4 - 0 win. I never thought I would say that but most teams in the league would have done the same or worse to Newcastle of last week.

Chelsea or United for the title.
