On that basis alone PC gaming should fit the bill as they are genres that typically favour PC over console (depending on how one defines racing 'sims' of course).
As for your questions, I can't answer than all but:
3) If you drop the settings on more demanding titles, yes.
4) I switched from 16bit consoles to PC in the mid-90s and don't regret it, but the landscape has changed a bit now. The core advantages of PC still remain but consoles have made some strides in terms of online support etc.
5) Absolutely, PC gaming is typically more user-friendly than it was back in the day in that regard. To get the best out of PC gaming however I would recommend investing the time in tweaking before you play, especially when it comes to sim games.
You should really change yo a ssf pc and you will never look back. Graphics wise you will never look back as they are really bad on a console but you will never realise until you try it.
Yes it is more expensive for the hardware but you will save money in the long run because of the cheaper games.
im coming back did the same when 360 and came out kids came along so spent more time in the living room it was more easier had 5 rrod in one year so went ps3 never looked back untill earlier this year when I hooked up the old rig to 50 inch plasma. let me tell you ive totally lost interest in consoles now after playing my old games at 1080p like hl2 and css with bots lol at 60+ fps on hd 1950pro agp.
As of now just getting my bits for a new pc but missis snapped her ankle last week so saving funds are on hold for the next 3 months at least :\
only problem I have is looking for best keyboard and mouse setup for sofa gaming looking at ms ark keyboard and good wireless mouse so it will all fit on my lap
Havent had a console since the original Xbox. Admittedly there have been a few times i've had to lend a friends console to play exclusive games but all in all I personally think consoles are for casual gamers or technophobes only as the advantages of PC gaming is just vast.
Admittedly you may also have to wait for some games but after a while when you've built your catalog up and still have 50+ games you've yet to play, the wait isnt so bad.
