EDIT: Note.. I no longer need advice on an actual service to use, I decided on a company called Excess Baggage.

I have searched and found various threads on using pallet services to move the remainder of my stuff to the USA, but no one has actually suggested a company to use.

Does anyone know of any pallet companies that ship to the USA? I've seen Pallet2Ship, but their interface seems designed for packages not pallets, which leads to ridiculous cost.

Trying www.excess-baggage.com ; expressforwarders.co.uk ; and pallet courier.co.uk (although the last one doesn't take personal effects d'oh).

I work for DHL in the day and notice a lot of students sending personal effects abroad use sendmybag.com. Is it large items youre looking at shipping? or just a pallets worth of boxes/bits & pieces. I can ask about shipping through DHL, however ill admit we can be quite pricey. There are also parcelmonkey and parcel2go who offer like a broker type service, although im not sure if they ship overseas.

There is another company we deal with http://www.ifb-ltd.com/ who are international frieght forwarders, however im not sure if you would need an account with them to ship anything.

from a quick google "ship a pallet to usa"

http://www.interparcel.com/pallet/

Looks like that's just UK, but thanks :-)

It's boxes of stuff that could go on a pallet, or be repacked to go in boxes etc. Lots of personal things like wedding pictures; wedding flowers; wife's clothes; baby clothes; blankets/curtains; some china stuff (well packed) and other personal things. I doubt it will have anything electronic in there.

We used sevenseasworldwide to send some bits to NZ seemed reasonable at time.

Have you thought of using/sharing half a shipping container?

Thought of container shipping?
Buying space in a container.

Yes, but I need the contacts :-)

As above, yes but I need the contacts/companies :-)

I'll look up sevenseasworldwide :-)

I'm hoping a pallet will do it if I'm careful as we sold the vast majority of our stuff before my wife moved over there.

I think you have to ask the question before you think about shiping it over is do you really need it? How long have you lived without it? I understand you say its wedding photos and flowers and other stuff of a personal nature and you might want to keep some most or all of it but the more you keep the more you pay for. Are you regular travelers from the states back to plymouth? or is this a long term thing? Could you store it with friends/family in plymouth and collect bits at a time. I only say this becuase I when I actually moved away from plymouth (I am an Estover boy!) I had lived in the area for about 9 years or so and I had BOXES of stuff that was in the loft that I had not even opened since we moved in so they where 9 years old and I hadnt needed the stuff inside them for that time so I asked if I would ever need the stuff in them? I stopped myself from opening the boxes becuase I knew there would be stuff I wanted to keep but I had not look in the boxes for 9 years so did it really matter? Just something to think about and way off the mark from the OP so sorry about that :)

Well looks like we will be using "Excess Baggage". Least hassle, decent rates and they deliver to the door in the USA, and take care of all the customs side of things.

Will be pretty much taking everything, as it is "our's". Sure, it'll cost a little more but then we think about ourselves as kids and looking at old toys we had etc... I think that will be good for our daughter etc.

Well today I've been learning that's it is quite difficult to have a box the size of two large suitcases and be able to keep the weight down below 35KG per box eek!.

Managed to do it (as long as my scales are accurate!!!) thankfully. 5 boxes and 170 KG later, and I find I need one more box lol.
