We're writing to let you know that the eBay.co.uk User Agreement has been updated to support policy and other changes. The updated Agreement is effective immediately for new members, and on 23 September 2013, for current members.

Here is a summary of the main changes:

We've updated the wording and format of our User Agreement and eBay Buyer Protection policy and International Selling Agreements to make them more transparent and easier to understand.
We've added a new section to cover changes associated with the introduction of the eBay managed returns process to the User Agreement and also to the eBay Buyer Protection policy.
We've made further changes regarding eBay Buyer Protection as summarised below (please see the eBay Buyer Protection Policy for the full details):
We're increasing the threshold where sellers are currently required to provide a signature confirmation proving delivery from £150 to £750.
As a seller – where you choose not to engage with the eBay Buyer Protection process on an item not as described case we may seek to carry out a reimbursement from you without requiring a return by the buyer.
In limited situations we reserve the right to extend the period that buyers are eligible and sellers are responsible for resolving cases eg. national emergency, national holidays and labour strikes. When applicable this will be communicated via the announcements section of our site.

So more protection for scam artists? I think ebay have seriously shot themselves in the foot (again)

Ebay has moved away from personal transactions as its barely worth their efforts/fees.
Its all about Ebay shops now and small business.

They don't want personal sellers and the stream of disputes time and money wasting that they bring.

I've sold quite a bit through Facebook groups with no problems and no fees, I just price at eBay completed prices and all seems fine so far.

Same here, facebook is great for shifting stuff and it's usually collected and cash in your hand.

Wow. They don't require items being sent back?

Dont think I will sell on ebay again

Only if you ignore all messages about a not as described dispute.

Tbf i don't think it's that unreasonable considering theres an issue and your choosing to ignore it.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone figured a way of sending an email address within an eBay message? Tried spaces, hyphens, AT DOT and they all come back as "sorry we can't send this message as it contains an email address". All I'm asking the seller to do is send me an invoice for an addition to an item I want to buy!

Try just typing your email like, your name at hotmail dot com. I think they'll get the idea...

Tried that! Still doesn't work, they're an eBay shop so no other contact details except messaging via eBay. Ridiculous that you can't send an email address, what if you've lost an invoice or if you're selling business cards that print out an email address in them.

Try making it even more verbose....

'thefirst part' and then you put a dot and then after that its an 'at' sign and then the domain is 'yahoo' - maybe that'll get through?

Updates to ebay agreement suck... there's ebid, and gumtree dont forget.

Maybe try "I have a google mail account that begins with blahblahblah" maybe that will get past?

I always struggle to get past the filter and sometimes we have resorted to text messages as they don't seem to block mobile numbers.

That's why I stick to selling on local Gumtree, here and specific forums like BikeRadar. Targeted audience, no fees and if sensible, a lot safer than dealing on eBay.

Advance search. Contact information.
User id and item number

You get their details in email.

Then call buyer or seller
Simple

Tried that and came back with no information!

Tried all variations on my email address and nothing got through, uploaded a HTML page to my hosting and sent the link to that, voila!

Isn't this good for a seller? they have raised the amount an item has to be worth before you need to get it signed for by 5x, and the thing about them reimbursing the buyer without item return if the seller ignores the dispute makes perfect sense to me.

Is there a realistic alternative? Ebay used to be great :(

Same here, facebook is great for shifting stuff and it's usually collected and cash in your hand.

Had good success using Facebook sales pages & have only had to deal with local people as well.
Gumtree has been good to me as well but I only deal face to face.
Apart from that MM here is the best to buy components from.

eBay just getting greedy now. Miss the days where you could just bid for stuff now it's all buy it now and at shop prices
