e46 320d's and swirl flaps etc.....

Of course its relevent, an e39 @ 270k miles is near if not past its end of life (and I've noticed my old one no longer shows up on the insurance database) a similar as you say car of 89k miles should have a lot of life left in it.

The 325 has clearly been well looked after, the old boys obvious pride and joy,bar the expense of consumables here & there, I'm not expecting it to go bang in a big way which at its mileage, unsurprisingly was something I was just waiting for ultimately with my e39.

I'd expect to get at least 30k out of this 325 should I keep it any length of time, with far more confidence than I'd expect my old e39 to have hit 300k without a major failure of the 'box or engine.

I'm not saying for a minute this car is lower miles alone, ergo it'll live, I'm just saying its far more probable that this'll see another 30k of life without a major bill than my old moon mile 528i.

I hope I'm right!

It's value dictates its life not its mileage. If something goes wrong on a 270k E39 worth 20p, the car goes in the dustbin. If the same thing goes wrong on an 80k mile one worth more than 20p, it gets fixed.

Everything on these cars is replaceable for a cost - unless it has structural issues it's life will continue forever until such time as its owner decides they can't be bothered to fix it anymore, something which is almost always dictated by its value.

Congrates, it looks pretty tidy in the pics and a better choice than the diesel at that age of car .

I remember a thread on a BMW Forum I use, discussing reliability of the cars, quite a few people had older cars 12years+ old that they had owned a number of years without getting any big bills. You wanna know what they all had in common? ...they were all petrol and not diesel. ;)

Cheers

An 89k 12 year-old BMW will need money throwing at it some time soon. They're very niggly cars with lots to go wrong. Vac leaks, cooling system bits, wheel bearings, suspension etc will all be getting tired at this mileage and age unless you have proof of them being changed.

On the face of this thread though, it does look like you've done rather well there. Nice car. :)

Well aware it will want stuff doing from time to time, it's had a lot of little things replaced already, shocks, springs, bushes ,drive belts and so on.

I've ran a few old & leggy bmw's now, and am not expecting too many surprises.

Obviously, it's a car and an old one at that, I may be unlucky , maybe not.

Time will tell, I'm presuming the clutch is a likely candidate for a bill, it's one thing it has no evidence of replacement in the history that I could see.

I'm not assuming I'm now going to have 10k of trouble free motoring, more hoping that I don't have too much faff with it and the motoring gods are kind!!!

Got £280 for the 318i, sold it via Facebook of all things!!!
