hi, went to take out my gpu, with no force whatsoever the pcie connector came off the motherboard exposing all the delicate pins, I cant seem to get the connector/port back on.

help

Got a picture?

There is a tab on the PCI-E bay which you are supposed to press to enable the graphics card to be removed easily, sounds like you've used excess force to remove it.

I think you would have a hard time fixing it, either try to RMA or buy a new motherboard.

I'm aware of the little tab. That's what I use. The port just slipped off, no snap, no force. The mobo is only 8 months old;

That'll be a pain to solder back on.

The other slot should work fine - but make sure none of the metal pins sticking out of the ruined ones are in contact with each other before hitting the on button. Probably worth either cutting the pins off or wrapping them in pvc tape, you don't want a short there

edit: rma as "you forgot to glue the socket on" may be the best option

Well i'm using the other port and it's working fine. I don't plan on using 2 graphics cards (since im using 2 monitors, 1 is using the integrated graphics) and if i do in future i was planning on upgrading my mobo anyway (and processor)

Don't really want to bother Overclockers since I found a workaround.

What the... Did you happen to rip the gpu out or something?
How can something like that happen, I thought boards are built to last..

you'll be fine with rma repair if its a gigabyte board

if its an asus board then forget about getting it fixed

Must admit in all the years I have never yet seen this happen, but I agree that as you have managed a work around you are ok, but otherwise only real option would be an RMA.
