Just a heads up all,

I bought the Noctua NH-U14S for my Asus Gene VI in a TJ08B-E Haswell build, sadly it was an expensive mistake as it fouls the initial X16 PCI-E slot.

For now it looks like I will either be running no 7950 and getting by on the onboard GPU, or will have to use the X8 slot.

Roll on pay day.......

I am running the stock cooler for now, let the system bed in, get used to it, it's bios and options are a world apart from the old Maximus II Gene I was using previous.

Still have a lot to learn, bios to update etc. Trying to keep it as small form as possible, while maintaining optical and HDD storage abilities.

It's a shame about the cooler, I never had any free time to put this system together before hand, though the cooler looks so nice I am contemplating it in another build, for which it would probably be OP.

I bought it on the 16.08.13 so will have missed any return deadline.

Didn't you check the compatibility lists on the Noctua website? That cooler on that motherboard is listed as:

In vertical orientation, the cooler is extending over the first PCI-E x16 slot, so please use the other available PCI-E slot(s) for your video card(s) or turn the cooler by 90°.

Can you turn the cooler sideways?

Hi, I'm going for a similar build to yours, but I'm hoping to use the bequiet Dark Rock Pro 2.
They don't appear to have a compatibility list, but do have a detailed diagram showing various measurements. http://www.bequiet.com/volumes/PDM/_products/bk017/bk017_dim_en.pdf
Do you know the distance between the first PCI-E slot and the cpu socket?

Edit: Compared the dimensions of the 2. The Noctua is ~13mm wider than the Dark Rock. Do you think this would be small enough?

13mm sounds ok, but what is the actual dimension with fan and clips?
With the huge NH-U14S the fan with clips is 165mm wide (IE top to bottom), hence it hitting my GPU considerably, but it was the heatsink that also touched the GPU's PCB, the heatsink has plenty of room for memory, but it is 150mm.

I am guessing anything with a 140mm fan, that goes no wider than the 140mm fan will fit with the TJ08B-E/Gene VI combo, for me it is a case of finding something with a single fin stack, that can take 1 or 2 fans and clear memory, but cool as well as a closed water loop like the Kuhler 920.

Currently I am considering the NH-U12S or a single 120mm Kuhler 920 or Corsair H80i. But will now have to pay a £200 dentist bill and most likely RMA my GPU before hand. :(

Having doubts about my chasing small compact MicroATX antics, maybe I should re-arrange the house around a Lian Li PC-343B with a Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI EXTREME.
