Virgin Media Discussion Thread

The 200mb + PS4 had nothing to do with VM, it was mentioned in the same article as them partnering but was in relation to top speeds in Europe, not VM.

VM will do 200mb at one point but those two are not related.

from what i've read VM is going to reserve bandwidth for gaming services on PS4. i guess like the tivo box has it got its own built-in modem

Broadband Partnerships
Sony has announced that it will partner with Virgin Media for the PS4's release, giving benefits such as reserved bandwidth for gaming services, and other "exciting benefits". As Techradar reports, we're still waiting for details on what that actually involves. But we're looking forward to seeing the results, and if you're also looking for a new broadband provider this could even be a killer feature.

It will be a peering agreement, they will probably just put the PSN CDN inside the VM Core so that you can download games quicker. Games don't use up anywhere near enough data to need 'reserved bandwidth', but increasing traffic prioritisation may help with ping problems.

Doublspeed website stated my area was done for 120 now but after rebooting the hub my connection was still 100/5. Phoned up the dedicated XXL support line this morning (0800 number, answered instantly) who put me onto customer service who switched me manually to 120/12.

Good good.

This. Like they did with Steam (or least did in the past). Bandwidth is 'free' on their own network so works in their favour and better for us end users too.

Okay so BB graph isn't much different to how it was on 100/5, not that I expected it to be. Connection is fast and stable. NZBs are pulling down at 14-15MB/s.

Here is mine.

I've just done the same a few hours ago, and the new 120Mb config has just kicked in. Though it's more like 130Mb as I seem to actually get use out of the overhead they add.

Gents, Update ref NGSH Firmware,
v26 Has now started to roll out for all if you have the SH2,
Started 3rd sept >>.
Obviously it will take a little while across all areas so its worth checking from time to time / Reboot to see if its been pushed out to you.;)

Anybody renewed contracts recently?
The best deal I can get is 30mb + M tv for 29.99 pm which is downgrading my M+ which i currently pay 40.
Tempted to go to sky for the cashback and vouchers which bring it down to 20 pm for more stuff.
Apparently according to virgin, if i sign up with sky and my settop box breaks the next day, I have to pay 70 quid to fix it but not on good guy virgin...

Rubbish-box is under warranty for duration of contract ie twelve mths

Rang to cancel my bb and got offered £5off for two years. Happy enough with that as I didn't want to have to take another phone line with sky. Dont use a landlines so even with the sky offer etc I am paying nearly the same albeit not 40meg dl

I have been paying £25 a month for 100Mb with no phone line, I got the letter about the price rises recently so I'm going to ring retentions and have a moan about it, if they offer me a lower price than £25 a month, I'll renew my contract.

U won't get lower than £25 a month. Virgin Media offered me £26 a month as I called up and complaint about price increasing. They say they cannot go lower than £26. But, instead offered me one off £30.00 credit on my account to cover that £2.50 a month increase. Job done.

Hmm, im not too sure about that price, does it include the phone/line rental?
I pay £35 per month for Talk Unlimited+Caller display and 120mbit BB.

Try and get the prices you see here:
http://store.virginmedia.com/?buspart=Portal_HP_c_topnav_1_1

And sky don't charge that much, they only charge you if it breaks after the first year, even then I'm sure you could negotiate.
