I'm after an upgrade from my 24" nothing-special-but-does-the-job monitor as I now have a big desk and my monitor has been pushed further away from me.

I'm not sure if I want a 27" ips monitor like this:

Or a 32" tv like this:

(Went for this particular tv cos 100hz vs the standard 50hz- I game at 60hz so I need a 100hz screen right?)

The monitor is £200 and the tv £280. I am tempted to go for the bigger tv but the monitor is an ips screen- will I be missing much picture quality if I get the tv?

I have creative t40s so won't be using tv or monitor speakers.*

When you want a bigger monitor, update your resolution as well. Don't go from 24 inch 1080p to 27inch 1080p as the image will be a lot worse than what you are used to.

In regards to TV's they are a big nono for gaming in my opinion. They normally have huge input lag (100ms~) and pretty terrible picture due to the bloating of 1080p resolution (Low PPI).

Also your eyes will thank you more if you go for a proper monitor that is meant to be looked at close range.

Well, there are low input lag HDTVs, too. Mine has about 40-50ms, which is tolerable for me.

BUT:
All the HDTVs are designed to accept only 50/60Hz input signal. If it says something else, it's usually only describing the motion interpolation feature, which makes the movement smoother, but is also a huge cause of input lag. If you want to game, then you will most likely want to disable the motion interpolation. And that particular TV doesn't even have "real" motion interpolation, in any case, as it's only some sort of backlight scanning feature.

Also, you should remove the latter link, as there's a "no competitor links" -rule in here. The first link (manufacturer) should be ok, I think. But yes, the TV you're looking at has quite nice review of it:

And for the record, I have a 42" HDTV and I use it from about 90cm distance.

I would definitely go for the TV.

Get a 27" screen for sure. The only decision would be either 1440p or 120hz. If you play more fps games then go for 120hz, everything else get the 1440p

27 inch 1440p is big enough will be buying one myself soon upgrading from a Dell 2407.
Just notice you only have a gtx 460 so 27" 1080p monitor would be better for you if your not going to upgrade your graphics card as well.

I do love the big sweeping brush like some people of, jonnylaris.

I don't feel any input lag even for racing games on a wheel, when you're constantly paddle shifting rapidly.

They normally have huge input lag (100ms~)

LCD have input lag of about 30-60ms

Plasma have input lag of about 16-30ms

Modern PC monitor have input lag of about 5-20ms

If you play with a controller or steering wheel you won't notice it much but with a mouse on FPS shooters such as counterstrike even my monitor with 16ms input lag is too much.

I can feel the lag even around the 8ms, but im so use to crt zero lag, and don't get me started on the horrid ghosting/blurring on all current pc/tv screens, your never get rid of that on current teck.

Have you tried a monitor such as the BenQ XL2411T running LightBoost (preferably at 10%)? If not you haven't seen what 'current LCD tech' is capable of. ;)
