Hi

My motherboard recently died, and I have decided to upgrade - just ordered new motherboard, memory, processor etc. The old system was AMD/asus MB and the new system will be Intel/Gigabyte MB.
I have a dual boot setup at the moment ('AUDIO' on my SSD and 'GENERAL' on my WD raptor).
I don't need a dual boot setup anymore and would like to run win 7 on my SSD which is a 50GB OCZ vortex 2.

I have some questions -

Is a 50GB SSD enough to install win 7 plus 3 or 4 games plus general apps ?
Do I need to backup the two current system drives I have at present before I proceed? If so, how as my MB is fried! What things might I need to backup from my system drive ? I think all the data I need to keep is on my other drives.
Will I need to clean install from my current situation ? Will I need to format any drives etc? or will I be able to 'repair' the current installations?
Will I run into any activation issues (I have the retail version) when I fire up the new pc?

Your guidance is appreciated.

50GB is plenty for windows and apps but don't expect to fit any games on there. you might get one at a push.

and as above, i'd also recommend a clean install. just remember to do these things after setup is complete:

-reduce pagefile size so it's fixed at 2GB
-disable hibernation (right click command prompt>run as administrator>powercfg -h off)
-turn off system restore

Thanks chaps. I think what I will do is do a clean install of windows onto the SSD and then format the 75GB raptor and install my apps to that.

Will do, but could you briefly explain why please ?

to free up space on the SSD. if you have 8GB of ram, the default pagefile will be 8GB. same goes for hibernation - another 8GB. that's 16GB out of 50GB gone before you even think about the space that windows and your programs will use.

just windows on its own takes over 30GB by time you've let it loose on windows update.
