Opinions on new MacBook Air

If your debit card is a Visa Debit Card, you get the same protection as with a Visa Credit card. Besides, Play.Com is the person you will actually deal with and I have never had any issues.

Been on the phone to the bank, apparently all good to go. So I've placed another order and emailed SpencerMann and asked them to cancel the other one which is 'stuck' in there. Lols.

Mine was declined, phoned bank and its gone through now ( money off my account)

Really glad i checked the thread again this morning after feeling a tool for staying up till after midnight!

I assume you reordered after talking to the bank? Don't want to authorise payment and then 2 airs get ordered!

A debit card unfortunately doesn't give the same protection as a credit card. With a credit card the issuing bank is entering into a credit agreement with the retailer and yourself under section 75 of the consumer credit act. So if there are issues in the future with the product then the bank is equally liable for it. In effect the bank becomes as liable as the retailer to address any issues.

I've successfully won several cases against the bank when the retailer won't address a problem. The bank will deny they are liable but then you have the protection of the financial ombudsman who has helped with redress in the past.

Credit cards are great and I never use them for credit but simply to get additional protection :D

VISA give the same protections to both their Credit and Debit cards on any purchases over £100. This was confirmed to me by VISA themselves.

They may voluntarily offer the same protect. But they don't have to in law and I would be surprised if they do offer identical cover. The banks hate having to give it voluntarily on credit cards and will often refuse to help (I've had this), hence having to escalate to the ombudsman (successfully). If visa debit does indeed offer the same protection then that is great but I would be a little surprised even if they have indicated similar protection. But thanks for the info, as it's really appreciated.

Anyway... credit card unblocked (I remembered my password!) and order resubmitted. Now let's see what happens :)

Right..

Off the phone with the bank. They said they had a lot of people calling with regards to this deal! She said it was going to be a busy day haha.

Put the order through now, I expect an email to tell me to call Play. I'm sure the guys in work are wondering why I keep going in and out!

Surprised this hasn't been put on HUKD yet :D

It was a couple of times, but HUKD take it down because Play is somewhat like eBay (different sellers/stores).

Just ordered one. I was holding out for the Haswell rMBP, but after buying a Dell U2713HM monitor recently, it seems a bit pointless.

My transaction was declined by the bank, but they called me and it's been approved now. Haven't received an email from Play yet though.

Man I hope this is legit.

Just received my CTO machine, i5/8GB/256GB SSD. For those interested in that kinda thing, has the Samsung display and SSD.

Not much to say really, it's a MacBook Air. The usual, basically :D Only comment so far was that the machine was very dusty, and has required a good clean. Inside the box, again, dusty. Surprised, considering my iMac came with a stone-type thing in there that luckily didn't cause major damage. But all cleaned up now :)

Just ordered one and realised I didn't select the delivery method!!

Was there any other option for delivery? It says free 4-7 days argh!! Hehe
