expensive hobbies

Skydiving is currently costing me a fortune, I've spent about £9k so far, started in Sept. 2011 and only really been properly into it this year.

Go karting is an insanely expensive hobby for my cousins. I certainly couldn't afford it.

Collecting those Games Workshop model armies is probably another on the expensive end of the scale!

Luckily for me, martial arts is probably one of the cheapest hobbies you can do.

I would say photography but it's actually not anymore, not for a while and it fact I get paid to take pictures...

So I guess....home cinema/learning the piano (lessons)/cooking.

I would count mountain biking with the money I paid for my Giant MTB but i've not gone up or down any mountain in it....so I can't really say it's a hobby, but it was certainly a waste of money !

Here was me thinking I don't really have an expensive hobby (apart from drinking and eating out), but then remembered I own about 3ks worth of bass guitars and amps. All bought used though, and for less than 3k.

I'm with you on that. I spent around £10k on photo kit which was superseded by mountain biking which currently stands at over £14k since 2007.

Did you see the thread where we added it all up?

It was quite hilarious to look back at, but at the time it was bloody jaw dropping.

I spent £1,500 on my pc.
£14,000k on my R1 with all the trimmings!
About £3,000 on my camera all this year!

Granted its not stuff u buy every year more like every 3-4 years for me

Thats the way I see photography, I've not spent 17-18k in one go, its since 2006...so thats on average £2250 a year, not too bad on a hobby that pays for itself for the most part :p

My 3 would be Mountain Biking, my old (and hopefully new one on the way) Reef tank and lastly collecting and painting miniatures.

I'm a scuba diver which is a hobby & a job but jeez it's expensive.

Wetsuit, gloves, hood & boots: Just over £300
BCD: £550
Regs:£700 (I didnt buy these fortunately!)
Computer: £250
Fins: £200
Mask: £120
GoPro: £200
Then there is the actual cost of diving itself which can be very expensive. All totally worth it though :D

Fortunately my other hobby is cheap....photography :(:(

Forgot the drysuit @ £800-100

I'd also swap the go pro for G12 with canon housing, macro lens and strobes - about £1000
Mask @ £45
Fins at £60
Computer and tank sender @ £700
5 tanks at £120 each

Other hobby is my old VW LT35 camper at £2000 plus £50 monthly fixing bill :D

+1 for skiing! That soon chews up cash, not just on the stuff, but the trips as well as a ball breaker. Especially taking and paying for the 4 of us! Ooof.

Watches, but that's not a hobby, really? That's more an interest! I really want to do my sky diving, pilot license and a couple more, but reading this stuff I might just sit here and watch youtube vids instead... haha
