I bought a N64 recently solely for goldeneye but it was so dated, I enjoyed the maps and the themetune but it just did not do it for me.
I then bought a snes and love it, mario kart, mario world, etc are all epic and it looks good even on a 50" plasma
I'm not sure it is about games being 'as good as you remember' so much as games just getting dated. I tried to play Thief the other day, but just couldn't as it had dated so badly. No doubt it is still great though, but times have changed.
How did you get on with getting Thief to run? I played Thief a few years ago and I had to apply a number fixes one of which was disabling the other cores on my CPU because the engine didn't like multithreaded CPU's?
For this very reason OP, I'm avoiding reintalling MOHAA:SH for the multiplayer. Possibly best left as a fond nostalgic memory.
destruction derby
I did the same... what TV have you got though? I'm still getting issues with the SCART output where there's a sort of cross-hatch pattern. This happened on my old Samsung plasma as well. Maybe it's because it's a PAL SNES.
N64 and some PS games have aged terribly because of the super-low poly and low-res textures IMO. Good quality 2D still shines.
OMG.. I remember DD2 - "Death Bowl" I think the map was that I liked. So much chaos!
I tried Populous the other day, remember it being so good. Loaded it up, thought WTF how does it look so awful and promptly quit.
Anarchy Online, but I just can't get past the ancient character models.
