Hi guys .

Got this board mainly for the 2x16 PCI-E and the Killer nic .

But having a tone of problems which I can not get my head round .

This MOBO can run PCI-E 2x16 . I have both 670 FTW cards in SLI in both the x16 slots ,Yet when I run GPU-Z one is showing as PCI-E 3.0 X16 @X16 1.1 and the other is showing PCI-E 3.0 X16 @ X 1 1.1 just makes no sense to me ..

I can tell that its not right because when in game like BF3 its feels really choppy like the game is running in slow motion .My other mobo was fine .

The mobo came with F4 bios then i changed that to F7 now changed again in hope of it sorting the problem out now its F8J beta bios . Maybe ill roll back to F7 . But even at F7 i still had the same problem .

By the way i'm using i7 2600K at the moment . So the mobo is using southbridge chip set not ivy bridge .

So to check you have the cards in the 1st + 3rd green slots.

Yeah there in the slots both in 16X slots

stress the gpu in gpu-z render test, they will switch to full pcie2/3 speed

pcie 1 is idle mode;)

Done that and showing the same :( I don't understand it . In game feels really sluggish but showing good fps .

When I was running both on my old MOBO PCI-E 2.0 slots and both @x8 was way smoother .

I am starting to wonder if it as some thing to do with the south bridge CPU on this MOBO . Would that affect the performance ? you think ..

is it the full size sniper or the micro matx?

latest beta is

G1.Sniper 3 - F8k http://www.mediafire.com/?5p35doe5y8b8dd8

G1.Sniper M3 - F10f http://www.mediafire.com/?1t4311avcv5ivih

that board should support sli just fine

its the FULL size this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-387-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

Thanks for the links

The PLX chip (which adds the extra PCI-E lanes) does add latency to the board.

latency?

Slowness, but it is only a few % slower than a slot directly connected to the CPU.

Oh right that's interesting .

So what about the i7 2600k would that not be affecting the over all performance of the slots ? because its south-bridge ,And how much better would an ivy bridge chip be over this one in terms of performance .

Any idea ?

is cpu stock or overclocked? overclocked would help

I had it clocked on the other mobo before this one at 4.4ghz and done the same on this mobo but the temps seem higher so I just put it back to stock at the moment . Until I work out the pci-e problem first then move on to find out why its running hotter on this mobo .

All so its watercooled .

ive seen a few bugs with sb chips in giga z77 boards

idk if that's affecting temps or sli

could try latest beta bios above and see what that says, flash back if you want/or don't prefer it

temps can also be down to what llc level you use or amount of cpu offset(dvid)

A Ivybridge PCU brings PCI-E gen 3.0 to the table, but that just adds a few % improvement over 2.0.

Thanks for the link . Yeah i can understand there would be not much gain from 2.0 to 3.0 but there must be other things that its does as well .

Yeah ill try the Bios and see how I go was thinking that I may go for i7 3770k next week but is it really worth the cash over what I have now . But need to sort this problem first .

no its not worth it imo, stay with the sb chip

im just trying to think of what's causing your issues

pcie2 to pcie3 offers 1% improvement so you won't lose much tbh

So I may as well send the MOBO back for refund if I am not seeing any performance benefits ? and just buy killer nic on a card .

I flashed the MOBO with that other BOIS F8K and seems to have the same problem . Just jumped into BF3 to see how the game would run was smooth to start with .Then when all the action started there was loads of slow down. And started to feel really choppy as hell :( kind off putting all this changing hardware. Just trying to make my PC better and seems by adding newer hardware is making it worst .

So your saying swapping from i7 2600k to i7 3770k will not make any thing better. So what's the point of Intel bring out this hardware when its doing nothing ? I am a little confused . :(

Thanks for your help so far really appreciate it , Just don't know what to do for the best as time is running out I have only seven days left to send it back for refund if I am not happy. Which is some thing I really don't want to do. Would like to get it working but at the same time if there is no real benefits from the upgrade then I feel like I am really just wasting money ?

Oh by the way it was OEM MOBO for £180 all I got was just the MOBO nothing else .

All so one other thing i notice that I feel is very strange the core temp and jumping round like crazy when the pc is doing nothing ,Old mobo I never see any of this .

Was it a refurbished board? A 3770k might cure it Idk,but for performance in games they would be similarly matched

Tried swapping cards around? Putting any faster cards in the top slot might help

Was **B Grade** Gigabyte Z77-G1-Sniper 3 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard from overclockers .

Yes put the fast one at the top .

I just don't know what to do for the best . You think that overclockers would let me have another fourteen days or just seven more days on top of what I have left ,Then I could get the chip and maybe see if that would help ,I want to keep it all and I would be saving them wasted time in the long run or they would just be getting it back and ill get my money . so in the long run would be wish on there part to let me have another fourteen days or seven more at least to try and sort things out . Ill call them tomorrow but I still have seven more days problem is I wont have the cash for a chip until the last day which is 11th next week

then ill order the chip and wont get that till the 12th then ill need time testing . Ill call them that's all I can do and see .If not ill take it out and back it on them for the refund as I have wast time all ready with this when I could have been spending time in the sun :D

idk what to suggest,it could be a problem with the mb

did you check to see if it works fine with just one card? test one pcie slot that's used for sli at a time
