Hi guys im still deciding on my loop story so far had a cracking deal a friend was building i7 rig on custom loop but had to sell due to baby I snapped his hand off as I've wanted to watercool forever lol
Its the xspc ex240 D5 kit i brought a second 240 rad for my 7970 as I cant fit 360 in bitfenix colossus case and dont want to have it on exterior so 240mm is what I have.
Now I have been brosing the galleries on here and you guys have thrown temptation my way again I love the look of the res loops so my question is......
Can I buy one of the d5 tops off here to convert from the bay res/pump combo to pump as its own unit and a res mounted else where? As to me looks a lot nicer and im a perfectionist its my baby lol
If I can what size res would you say I need? Thanks

So you want to take the D5 off the pump-res combo and fix an aftermarket top to it and also buy another RES(with out using the bay RES)?
Are you talking about a tube RES?

You can do what you describe. The res size is really up to you though - be sure to measure the space you have available before you purchase!

You might have to work out how to mount the pump without the brackets it'd have as a 'normal' purchase though, I don't know if tube res fittings would be strong enough to hang the pump from.

I've been looking at biyspower d5 mod kit complete with brackets foam silencer top I know mighht seem waste as the kit has all I need but I would only want tube res eventually lol so tube res size doesn't matter? Got plenty of room removed hdd cage for airflow so can mount in there is there any advantage to a bigger one? Thanks for advicee guys

Theoretically a larger one will decrease the amount of time it takes for the water to heat up, meaning your PC stays cooler for longer on startup.

However, with the volumes we're talking about you're looking at a difference that would likely be measured in seconds, and once it equalizes it'll likely be at the same temperature.

Pick based on appearance, fittings and space available.
