i7 4770k enough for SLI titans?

The epeen is strong in you.

That would in my eyes, just be throwing money away for the sake of having 4 Titans in a rig, you can gain better/similar performance whilst being more sensible with the hardware.

maybe it would be total overkill but you guys are saying get 770's or 780's i dont understand why i shouldnt get the titans they are supposed to be the fastest cards you can get

They are the most expensive cards for sure

If you only want the best of the best for bragging rights then go Titan.
Otherwise go for 780 Lightning

They are the fastest card you can get but they don't scale in SLI very well and value-wise the gtx 780 and 770 are better.

Simple terms 1 titan outperforms 1 780. Making it the fastest card..

Though 2 titans are outperformed by 3 780's (even though the cost the same amount).

Feel free to go with the titan but we are trying to get you better value..

I also feel you should go 2011, especially if considering more than 2 GPU's.

the 4770k will certainly bottleneck 3 TITAN's (and 3 780's)

'Supposed' being the key word there, the 780's perform very close to the Titans, with a massive saving on the price you pay as well. The only real reason for having a Titan since the release of the 770's and 780's would be to flash them about on the internet/friends IMO.

It wouldn't make sense to have 2 Titans or even 4, the bottlenecks will be there, the price you paid would be ridiculous & not worth it. If the 780's wern't released and it was still the Titan at the top of the food chain, then yes get them, but for the price/performance breakdown, I'd be looking at a pair of 780's, some nice watercooling & moderate overclocks, that'll last you years to come and you'd of saved enough to have a holiday as well! :D

right now i get it thanks for explaining it like that ive never done SLI or crossfire before so i dunno how it works lol

so setup im thinking:
core i7 3930k
16gb ram
2 780's
im not sure about the CPU though arent the 6 core ivy bridge CPU's supposed to be launching soon? might be better off waiting and getting one of those

No problem, it is a lot to get your head around and logic is not always right..

I like that spec, though like you say the Ivy-E's are out soon but they don't OC as well as the sandy's (3930k) do..

8 Pack just set a world record with a 4930k he cherry picked from a batch of 24. :)

i think ill get the 3930k and just overclock it as far as it will go, thanks for all the help :)

Just to mention: AMD new cards are coming soon, so if you're basing your rig around BF4, they're going to be released around the end of this month in prep for BF4.

I still think, a 3930k, 2 780's & 16GB RAM is a lot for just BF4, but if the budget allows!

not really interested in AMD cards to be honest, im not nvidia fan boy or anything but all ive been using in my rigs for the last few years is AMD all my buddies are running nvidia so from using there systems to using mine i dont really know how to explain this properly but with the same frame rates AMD doesnt feel as smooth to me

not very helpfull

Why?

In the rare occasion that there has been a difference in smoothness, there are actually ways to alter smoothness that take minutes, that aside, AMD have been working on their own frame rate meeting software that fixes the issue if it does arise.

So with that considered, it'd be by far the most sensible choice to wait until AMD releases their latest cards and then go from there.

why would it be more sensible to wait for AMD? sure AMD cards are usualy cheaper i really dont feel like you get what you pay for with AMD

why would it be more sensible to wait for AMD?

Because we don't know exactly what they will be bringing out, but it's only around a month to wait.

They could bring out something with very good performance that matches or bests a 780 for less, or they could bring down 780 prices.

It's not particularly sensible to buy when a new release is so close.

If you want the best and money is of no object to you, it could turn out the new AMD cards beat the titan/780, so you would have only had "the best" for a month or so.

Also once again if money is no object you may aswell wait until the 4930x is out, its pretty soon i think? November?

also arent Nvidia releasing a titan extra or 785 within a few months?
Depends on how fast you want everything :)

I imagine that the prices of Nvidia cards will fall slightly with the release of AMD, but they will still be worth looking at. The current 7950's and 7970's are amazing pieces of hardware.

I was under the impression that the benefit of titans was their computational ability, they are now outperformed in pure gaming terms by newer cards but their computational prowess isn't? as for Z87 vs X79, go X79 if you want more than 16 pci lanes is what I herd the general guidline to be.

This is the exact appeal of a Titan, for those who want K20X performance for 20% of a K20X's asking price.

They never really made sense as cards to be used only for games. Most Titan sales will have been for people who want to use them for professional uses, as despite being a little bit slower than a K20X, they have the advantage of actually being a graphics card, ie, containing video outputs on the board, whereas K20Xs don't have video outs.

i guess your right about waiting to see what AMD comes up with hopefully it will push the prices of nvidia down a little
im currently running an AMD 7870 and its just meh the performance and the in game frame rates i get are pretty good for the most part but it just doesnt feel very smooth and the drivers suck and thats what ive had with every AMD card ive ever owned ive always had AMD card but ive just been turned off to them but this is just my oponion on it im not trying to start an argument :p

i might wait for the 4930k im finding it really difficult to pick when it comes to all this high end stuff my current setup an i5 3570k with the 7870 and 8gb of ram is the best ive ever had lol

has there been any word from nvidia on a gtx 790?

You think AMD drivers suck? Lawdy lawd, nVidia have been struggling to get a working one out for a while. Between AMD and nVidia, only one of them has released drivers on 3 separate occasions that has actually killed graphics cards. It wasn't AMD. The amusing part is that each time seemed to coincide with new nVidia cards coming out...

As for everything else, I'm really not sure how or why you're struggling. I've had plenty of AMD cards and haven't had any of these issues, a load of my friends have AMD cards, and it's the same for them. The issue people have with nVidia is that they have been charging silly money for less performance, or even sillier money for a little bit more performance. You just tend not to get much value for money.
