I think the only PR people that could have messed up the announcement more would have been the Liverpool PR department tbh

:D

The attitude of, if you want to play games offline buy a xbox 360 and the contempt and arrogance of Microsoft in their attitude towards gamers, making the assumption that all the xbox 360 owners would just jump ship, was staggering.

Yes, I was shocked at that as well. I think that one sentence was a big factor in why Don Mattrick is no longer with MS.

Indeed, such a shame they're not rushing it out a year in advance :/

Huh?

I wasn't suggesting that they rush it out, although it is Ubi****, the only positive in that being that they're not Elect**** Arts.

It's just when a game comes along and looks that good, promises so much, it's horrible to know that you're going to have to wait a long time for it.

Well yes, but good games take time! Same with Watch Dogs last year.

I think the main reason I'm not attracted to the Xbox One is simply the unique features don't interest me. Voice commands don't interest me, picture-in-picture doesn't interest me, using it to record TV shows doesn't interest me. The stuff left over isn't enough for me to warrant paying almost £100 more than the Playstation 4, especially when the PS4 is adding new features that I deem useful and interesting.

Not really :p, I'm not that hyped for WatchDogs :(.

This.

Wait, you're Welsh! Why are you making sense.

Unfortunately Davey_Pitch youve made a rod for your own back there, especially considering youve changed polls when MS have either backtracked or published a release date. I cant see why its unreasonable to do the same when the main issue for people with the PS4 is the launch window games, supposedly at TGS theres more announced games coming, but I dont know if they are launch window or not...

I've done new polls when they've been asked for, you've seen that yourself. If there are enough new launch window games at TGS for the PS4, and enough people want a new poll, we can have one. Really doesn't bother me either way :)

Like voice commands? :p

I think that's a massive exaggeration and more to do with incompetence.

They tried to do something to move console gaming forward and screwed up the messaging. Firstly too much emphasis on the TV/Media side of XO at the initial reveal. If they had have just done games so opinion was XO and PS4 were pretty much on a par for gaming (which they are) and then have done a follow up with "and look at all this single under TV media box/TV/Sports (I still hope they do something with the Premier League/FIFA and Formula one similar to the NFL stuff) stuff along with Windows 8 apps, snap, instant switching, Skype etc" it would have gone across a lot better with hardcore gamers.

They made a pigs ear of the messaging around second hand sales (to the point there are still people who think you couldn't sell games on despite it being very clearly, albeit belatedly, said you could).

They also missed the boat completely on the library sharing. Frankly i don't know many people that don't have an internet connection for their console and the ability to share my entire games library of full games with 10 friends (and have them share with me) was for a me an stunningly good thing. Unfortunately it got drowned out by wails of "DRM DRM DRM". I can see why they needed you to have an internet check once a day to stop the system being abused, I just wish that instead of trashing it they said if you don't check in once a day you can still play games, just not shared ones and only with a disc in the drive, not disc-less from the HDD.

In any case, we are where we are and I think MS have quite obviously shown contrition and listened to their customers since. Some will want to portray it as "we pwned M$, they had no choice", I think they genuinely listened and although in a minority I actually wish they had have stayed with their initial vision and taken the hit as i found it really quite interesting, it was the only console to genuinely try to move consoles forward form "more of the same but with better graphics".

I can only hope a vast array of MS PR and Marketing people were sacked for a **** up of epic proportions. :D

I predict it will level out around 1.5/1 ratio for the PS4.
I'd expect at least 2:1 given how much dislike there is for MS and XO in this forum over the last few months although to be fair there's been a few who have forgiven the original cluster **** of an announcement :)

I think the only, single reason Microsoft has made changes is because of the pre order numbers. I don't think they wanted to nor expected to have such a negative reaction. I think they thought that they could do this and the gamers / customers would just swallow the money shot.

The PR / Marketing department just messed it up from the get go and took the gamers for granted.

And why do you think Sony made no changes from last gen? Do you genuinely think they're white knights, championing the future of gaming....or do you think they saw the opportunity to get one up on Microsoft and get more preorders? Neither of them care about you except as a source of money.

Xbox one for me, although may not be launch.

Playstation has never done it for me after the PS2.
