I am considering going to 1x10 from 2x10 on my Canyon Strive 9.0 SL

The current setup is:

Front Derailleur: Shimano XTR
Chainrings: 36/24
Cassette: Shimano Deore XT 11-36 10-speed
Chain guide: e.thirteen TRS Dual Guide Custom
Front crank: Race Face SIX C

The main reasons are I dont use most of the gears I have plus I put a decent sized dent in the front derailleur (no idea how or when :().

I'm think of getting a 32 teeth chainring and getting a new chain guide. Not sure of specific models yet.

Has anyone else made the change?

Currently run 1x10 with a 34t chainring, does anything I ever want it to and I can grind up pretty much any climb, if you do a lot of large long climbs 32t may be better, but either way I doubt you'll be left wanting.

As far as it goes with a chainguide I currently run one however a lot of people report huge success with one of the fat/thin rings, look into it if you are getting a new ring anyway, that coupled with a clutch mech is meant to be extremely good with lots of reports of zero chain drop.

Get Raceface Narrow/wide 32T ring, no need for a chainguide at all.

Been running 1 x 10 on Hardtail for about 2 months now and ZERO dropped chains. There is no need for a chainguide.

You can get a clutched mech if you want, (i run a zee clutched mech) but normal mechs work just as well with the narrow/wide ring. If your existing rear mech is a 10 speed one already, I would just get the 32T ring and your done.

Haven't tried one of the special rings yet reports are great thought. And yes as far as the ring size goes to put it into perspective my 34t set up is on a nukeproof mega weighing in at 34lbs, not not exactly light and I can climb pretty much anything I want.

I've been very tempted to do this myself but I'm currently running 2x9 so I'm not sure if I can get a narrow wide chain ring that will suit. I'd probably go with a 34T on the front as the current 36 is just a little to big for a really long decent.

I need to get another chain, the current is a KMC. I need a spare as the current one ive removed a few links on it. What can I replace it with?

Thinking the same, on the edge though as it's a lot of money lost if I don't get on with it but also some money saved if I do.....

Update:

I have ridden the 32t setup on several trails and there is nothing so far that i have come across that i cant climb hill wise. I lack a gear or 2 when on the flat or down hill but thats fine.
