Have you ever thought about how much of a bubble you live in?

I was actually thinking about this yesterday while I was driving through the ghetto looking at the people and houses. I was thinking that things really will turn in to Elysium one day (hopefully I'll be up in space with the other well armed yuppies). It's a totally different world, like going to a different country compared to my neighborhood. Culture, values, speech, everything.

I think about my bubble all the time. Depending on where you live I guess has a massive effect on how you feel. In somewhere like Croydon and London especially I guess you'll spend more time thinking about it than if you were anywhere else. Generally people can be really ignorant of one another which kinda forces you into a particular way of thinking.

I remember waiting for a train in Croydon and a bus in London, apparently queuing up doesn't apply and everyone just pushes each other out of the way. It's a bit sad really..

Yeah, a cheeky little shank with a knife while queuing up is a banterous activity.

I'm so glad I live in London. The diversity is amazing and extremely educational.

The flipside is that there's so many people in London that it's possible to surround yourself within only a thin slice of society. Growing up in the suburbs, you couldn't pick and choose your friends so easily. You had to confront opinions that you didn't agree with and listen to music that you didn't like. In London, I'm only friends with people who have exactly the same interests and hobbies as I do. I simply don't have the time to maintain relationships with people who I like slightly less. If I want to go to a club or a gig, it'll only ever be something that I know that I'll like. There's too much music in London that I like to bother with anything else.

My real-life friends are all incredibly liberal, left-wing, Oxbridge, Guardian readers (and increasingly writers, eep). It's actually quite enjoyable to come on OCuk and have my outlook on the world challenged.

I wouldn't take any of asim18's stories at face value... ;)

Yeah because it's totally unbelievable to:

A) Have a drug dealer as a friend.
B) Be invited to a Muslim gathering.
C) Bump into some girls while having a No

I find it unbelievable that you find these everyday things so unbelievable.

I mean seriously, how many drug dealers hanging around right this minute? How many Muslim gatherings occuring right is second? and how many people are rolling a joint on a park bench who may find some company?

Truly amazing how sheltered some people are :D - but its still educational interacting with different people as I said earlier.

Just like the "NO WAY"s I was getting when I revealed I've been mugged with a sawn off shotgun.

:D

Couple of days ago I'm hanging around with a drug gang smoking East London's finest, yesterday I found myself in a house full of Muslims chanting "Allah" while trying to self hypnotise. Today I was on a park bench about to roll a special cigarette, and a group of chavvy (but sexy) girls came and stole my Rizla for ransom. As a bonus she hid it down her bra which was nice when she finally gave it back. Most satisfying Rizla lick ever.

Yeah, sounds awesome!

I felt as though I had walked into a new bubble a few week's ago  - went into this factory with a high tech shop at front - Sat there waiting for my order looking round as you do and came to conclusion I was odd one out - totally out of my depth - Everyone including fat bird with a gap had a top end mobile, all of them clutching them for grim death - it seemed to me as though they would all commit suicide if there was a hold up and they had them nicked - god knows what they were doing on them- mine is a old Nokia 6630 just in case I break down. -- Bring back pagers.

To give you a clue this shop is near Stoke on Trent. ;);)

Yeah, you are of course so much more street wise and unsheltered than everyone else here. ;)

The only reason I doubt is because you have a history of posting garbage.
