Could Volcanic Islands based AMD with a 22nm SOI design featuring 2304 to 2560 stream processors be

It would be interesting to see exactly how many ps4 preorders have actually been cancelled and how many xb1 pre orders have jumped up, all that's missing is Michael Pachter to crawl out of the woodwork with his bs

Remember that the nvidia 7900 in the 360 Is desperately weak by todays standards, and yet that manages 60fps on forza 4 and GTA V at 30fps just fine (I assume). However, the 7900 was a top end card at the time, and has lasted just shy of 10 years. The 6670 is a low-mid range card, so that probably won't last 10 years. Ironically the ps360 8 year lifespan is one of the reasons pc graphics cards are not improving very much and now consoles have to use these mediocre cards!

Its one of my biggest criticisms of the one and PS4 - while the GPU specs on paper are more than sufficient for shovelling pixels and polygons they are not very forward thinking specced in terms of compute/shader capabilities for more advanced games especially if you start throwing some physics workload at the GPU as well as advanced shaders and lighting. Won't be that many years and no amount of efficent closer to the metal programming will help them as they are left far behind by PCs for next generation effect performance.

I wonder if this is all a ploy secretly initiated by Microsoft to get people to cancel PS4 orders and pre-order the XO, only for everyone to find out it's not true via an iFixit teardown after having already bought the console :D
I dont think its like that, its just something that probably has a shred of truth while the rest is just rumour upon rumour that just apparently fit with a dash of hope/gullibility thrown in. Hell some of it hangs on the fact there are different colours on a particular slide :p

Its light relief from the normal stuff weve become bored of discussing :D

I dont think console platform owners are happy to keep to the old model where the console is highly subsided while attempting to make long-term profits from game licenses and down the road where efficiencies and processes changes allow them to produce them at a much lower cost.

Those days are gone Im afraid looking at the current climate, tbh its quite sensible as costs are going through the roof for game development...

TBH I look forward to server-side streaming, then MS and Sony will just be an option on the same screen (next to Sega and Nintendo of course ;))...

ps3ud0

As much as I'd like to think it was true for the drama and an awesome console given their performance over the last 6 months I don't believe Microsoft XBox marketing team could organise a **** up in a brewery much less a stonking cunning plan like this worthy of Baldric himself.

Shame really as as well as hitting a home run for gaming, people would be talking about it forever and a day.!

I thought the ps3 used an ati 4850 variant and the 360 used the older dx9 equivalent nvidia 7900, if you remember the 'ps3 does dx10' thing when it came out? I might be wrong and can't be arsed to look it up on my phone lol.

The 360 used a custom ati chip based around the x1900 series card. Although it would have been a pretty watered down version since the x1900 was a £400ish desktop gpu back in 2006.

360 uses a Xenos GPU chipset based on a hybrid of ATI's R500 and 600 GPU lines (x1800/1900 and 2000). PS3 is likewise based on a nVidia 7800 (G70) core but with some modifications making it a hybrid between different desktop GPU lines.

Nope Amd produced the GPU (Xenos) for the 360, which was based of the x1800 with some features of the hd2000 series.

Nvidia produced the chip for the PS3 (RSX) which was a weaker 7800gtx.

edit - Rroff beat me to it.

Microsoft has said that hardware specs don't matter... Sounds like something the loser would say.. Lol

He is saying the PS4 is 50% more powerful

He knows this. He purposefully cropped the pic to leave that out after posting the uncropped version on ps4 thread.

For what reason, only he knows! :/

EDIT: and then editing post on ps4 after i pointed this out to remove pic. Lol pathetic behaviour.

With people trolling Xbox like that, it makes me hope Microsoft have hidden a more powerful GPU just to get the last laugh. Sony fanboy's getting all cocky over a midrange GPU is cringe worthy. Come on Xbox unleash a Volcanic Islands GPU and watch the Sony boys cry me a river :p

If people are into better spec, makes you wander bother with console at all, get the real deal. The PC..
