Hi,

Can anyone confirm if there is such as a thing as the following in terms of AMD motherboards, preference is Gigabyte if possible

I currently have an AMD Phenom 965 and 8GB of Patriot Viper RAM

I'm considering putting this processor and RAM in a new MATX board however I also want to upgrade the processor and RAM a few months later, I'm considering changing my case to a Silverstone Fortress FT-03 due to room available in my flat hence the change, plus I really like the look of the case

In summary, is there an MATX motherboard that will take my current processor and RAM that will also take an upgrade to a more recent processor and RAM when funds allow?

Thanks

Has no one been down a similar path?

I've been doing some reading and the good news is that it seems any AM3+ board will do what I want but the bad news is they seem rare in MATX form and Gigabyte don't appear to do one at all

I've had a look at what OcUK have in stock, there's some ancient 7 series mATX boards from Asus, but the one I looked at doesn't have 125W cpu support for you chip.

Appreciate you taking the time to look, so it looks like a complete upgrade is required, shame as I was hoping to save some cash by utilising my current PSU/RAM/CPU

If anyone can recommend an mATX board that can do what I need it to I would be much obliged, I'm going to get the case first anyway so plenty of time for me to search

Not fussed on overclocking unless its as easy as upping a multiplier like on my current AMD CPU and I'm a one GPU only kind of guy so as long as the board takes quick ram out of the box, has decent on board sound and one up to date PCI for my 760 I'm a happy man

I think I'm settled on a Silverstone Fortress FT-03 in black, love the look of the case and it will be perfect for my desk, hope to order the case next month from you and start my build around that

A boggo motherboard as described above, doesn't need to be feature rich just plug and play and suitable for a decent I5 and 8GB of RAM, I'm a little confused as to whether I can use my current PSU or if I need something that's specific to the case and a Haswell based system?

Thanks again

You do not need a "Haswell compatible" PSU for Haswell systems, its to do with low power sleep states that are now present and some older PSU's not being able to supply such a low voltage, if there is an issue then it can be disabled by turning off C6/C7 sleep states in the BIOS.

What PSU do you have?

Heres more mATX boards if overclocking isn't needed,

Its a Seasonic X Series 650, its about 3 years old though but bought the best I could at the time so hopefully will be ok, not sure if it is compatible if it will fit the case though?

Damn you're fast! Only just managed to find the case supports ATX on your site before you replied

Thanks I wanted the best I could at the time and its served me well, I find that a little odd though because I didn't think Haswell existed 3+ years ago

Well that's why I buy from you lot, as you can maybe see from my purchase history I tend to order most of kit from yourselves and the next build will be no different

Still a little wary on the PSU though, wondering if there have been some revisions since I bought mine which makes it Haswell ready

Other than that I'll be placing orders slowly but surely over the next couple of months with the case being first

Your PSU is a quality product from possibly the best PSU manufacturer.

You should have no concerns.

The whole "Haswell" ready PSU thing is blown way out of proportion.
