It doesn't matter which way you cut it. It's marketing, plain and simple.
I agree with that. The free game was offered because Sony had more pre orders than MS did so MS needed a way to get more people to get their console at launch.

I think with equal effort into development and equal targetting of graphics, I cant see how FPS wont give you a good idea of the performance difference. That difference is natural if the developers put in the same effort, its not like one is expected to be harder to code for, or a nod to the PS3, alien to code for....I'm not talking about the odd frame rate stutter lol. I'm talking full blown black and white in your face, indisputable differences.
You don't have to be anti or pro anything.
This sort of thing is standard practice in many industries. Those games are included in the price of the console. The good thing is that you're being charged extra.
It's pre-orders only, while stocks last, so it's effectively the Day One edition consoles. How long will they be offering that for? Or is it just for people who are pre-ordering and once the console officially launches the deal won't be available any longer?![]()

Need For Speed Rivals will feature better graphics on one next-gen console than the other, Ghost Games’ executive producer Marcus Nilsson has suggested – but refused to clarify which.
“What we’re seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time – especially one of them, but I’m not going to tell you which one," Nilsson told VideoGamer.com at Gamescom earlier today.
“And that makes me really happy. But in reality, I think we’re going to have both those consoles pretty much on parity – maybe one sticking up a little bit. And I think that one will look as good as the PC.”
Nilsson chose not to answer when asked whether he was referring to the PS4 version.
Pushing him on the subject further, I asked: “Does that mean that the PS4 version of Rivals will look better than the Xbox One version?”
“I think that both consoles will look pretty much on parity,” he replied, “but one of them might stick up a little bit.”
Though the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One share similar specifications, PS4 features faster GDDR5 memory over Xbox One’s DDR3.
Nilsson’s comments suggest that third-party developers may be looking to take advantage of the additional power of PS4, rather than deliver identical versions across both platforms.
Need For Speed Rivals will be available at the launch of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this November.
Microsoft announce the consoles price at £429. Price includes controller, HDMI lead, power brick etc.
Microsoft later announce the addition of a game to the bundle. The price doesn't change. That to my mind is a free game.
Dress it up however you like, say it's marketing all you want. You weren't getting a game before. You are getting a game now at no additional cost. That's called free.
Sorry but I havent disputed the fact that customers aren't being charged extra. I'm saying the price of the game is sitting in the retail. Thats fact.
Next you'll tell me that your mobile phone provider is great because they gave you a free phone too...
I give up. If people want to believe they're paying for a game that costs them nothing, that's their problem.
They were paying £430 for the console previously. Now there is a game added for no additional cost. That makes it free in my eyes.It isn't costing them 'nothing' they're paying £430 for a bundle that includes a game.

Whatever. You feel whatever you want to feel about it. I was happy paying £430 for the console before. Now I get a game I wasn't getting before, for no additional cost. I class that as a free game.No. You're paying £430 for a bundle that includes a game.
I've never liked the premise of marketing things as 'free' you're still paying for them in the price.
