Could Volcanic Islands based AMD with a 22nm SOI design featuring 2304 to 2560 stream processors be

Anyway, as far as I know, there is no proof that Volcanic Islands is on 20nm. Places like SemiAccurate were saying they are still on 28nm for VI.

Rumor suggests discrete GPU in Xbox One

Stacked inside the APU

OCAHOLIC

Microsoft already shed some light regarding the APU that will be a key part of the upcoming Xbox One console and that actually has a die size of 363mm2 which is pretty large considering the fact that it is based on eight Jaguar cores and recent rumors suggest that it might even feature a discrete GPU that would be stacked inside the APU.

Its highly unlikely that VI is on 20nm but 22nm is slightly, but only slightly, more feasible - though I have no idea if the tech can actually handle something like a GPU.

I guess in one way i would find it funny if its true that MS actually hid this from the public which is just stupid marketing lol but on the other hand i would be annoyed since im getting a PS4 and one of the upsides is that its more powerfull.

Still though if that guy is saying that Devs are saying the PS4 is 50% more powerfull then there must be a hint of truth there as surely devs would have access to the whole system would they not?

If this is true (and it won't be) the rumours suggest it will be significantly more powerful than the PS4, not level with it.

If true, then what you have is a S.O.C with a supposed TDP of around 100W (MS has mentioned this a few times), that has around 20% more shaders than a 7970 which requires 250W. MS have stated the S.O.C has 5 billion transistors a 7970 has 4.3 billion transistors, 0.8 Billion transistors are used for the Esram, and whatever the CPU/Audio chip etc need. hmmm

Well obviously MS have taken this into account and given figures without this super secret gpu :p

But what would the point be of a console thats MASSIVELY more powerful than its competition? All games will cater for the lower performance console mainly with only bells and whistles added for the xbox ones new found rumoured power. Ofcourse first party games will benifit but TBH i think Gears, Halo and Fable have had their day.

Makes no sense at all apart from appealing to the tech nerds like us which are a tiny portion of the market.

You'll have to ask the PS4 fans about that, some of them claim the PS4 is massively more powerful than the Xbox One. :)

Why do people buy pcs

Thats because it is!! - double the shaders, DDR5 v's DDR3. Higher clock speed on the CPU too.

This is all BS plain and simple. MS are gunna let it roll as they are hoping it will help sell their console some more. Why would they announce a super duper 150mhz bump in the cpu speed and a full whopping 50mhz on their GPU if they had a killer gpu under the hood? - Use some common sense and take off the xbox blinkers bud!

We all know how current software on PC's can take advantage of higher speed memory and extra shaders without seperate / specific coding - The same applies in this case as its all going x86 based.

If I wanted a good overall media / gaming system - then I'd just buy the xbone. If I want an outright gaming console (and nowt else) then the PS4 rocks unless one HAS to play exclusive titles.

I'm not denying the PS4 is more powerful, I just don't think the real world difference will be as big as the numbers suggest.

Oh, and as far as I was aware, the PS4 CPU speed was still unconfirmed?

Use some common sense and take off the xbox blinkers bud!

I really hope you're not saying that to me considering I already called this as rubbish in my first post in this thread :)
