Hi everyone I built a system a year and half ago for shogun 2 and really enjoyed playing it but eventually got bored and never thought Rome 2 would be out for a long time so sold system however out now so wanting another system however don't know weather to buy a decent laptop or build a system, I like the Alienware 14 but its £1100 and that's very expensive and its very portable and would be better for me as laptop on the brink at the moment or build one and spend a lot less whats ur opinion on how much it would cost for Austen to run on high settings ?

Here is the last system

this is specs of last pc
Asrock extreme 4 gen 3 mobo
Intel I5 2500k CPU
HIS ATI Radeon 2GB 6950 HD GPU ICEQX
Corsairs xms3 2 x 4GB
Samsung spinpoint F3 1TB
LG super multi Blue optical drive
Tranquillo cpu cooler
Antec 650w

Any opinions welcome
Thanks Dean

How you ever thought of doing a small form factor build just an option to look at as it is some what more portable and less of an impact as a big case as they can be just as powerful.

desktop all the way, laptops are more expensive, break easy and run to hot in my opinion

If your after a small size have a look at some of the builds in the small factor section

some bitfenix prodigy builds on there that look really good :)

A gaming laptop is slower, more expensive, runs hotter, dies sooner. It usually has an inferior screen and invariably has a smaller screen. You pay a hell of a lot for the privilege of carrying it around within dashing distance of a power socket.

I get the attraction of ultrabooks - long battery life and barely adequate specs - for writing in coffee shops or on the train. Gaming laptops just don't make any sense to me at all.

Thanks for the reply everyone, well firstly I built that system then sold it but now wish i didn't, was wanting a ps4 but think going to build a rig instead and wanted laptop but like you say might build a rig then get a tablet for browsing, my budget will be around 400-500 pounds of possible but that's not including screen, I will purchase that separately so just all the internals and case etc, I mainly want to be able to play Rome 2 total war and I think this is a very demanding game so most other games I will have will not be so demanding like sim city and Diablo etc

Also would be great to play in ultra settings and don't think need windows 7 as sure I have it somewhere

Any help would be great thanks a lot Dean

thanks swiftmetal actually could push to £600 I think if needed is intel I5 best for gaming or AMD , keeping this system and need it to play rome 2 total war on ultra and other games like battlefield 4 etc and will be keeping system for couple years before change, looking forward to new build any more recommendations welcome

can £500-600 get me a decent spec gaming machine ?

Thanks Dean

I can try again when I get back home.

Are you going to overclock the CPU at all because depending on the answer will make a difference with the CPU.

About and vs Intel

Intel is better clock for clock than amd but amds is cheaper.

For gaming intel is better but it will all depend on if it can fit into the budget.
