Tuesday is simply because it's a worldwide release and the US traditionally gets their games on a Tuesday. I always think Friday makes more sense as you get the weekend to play the game.
I wish I had a copy of GTA IV to play right now, I don't understand how I can have played it to completion on both of the consoles as well as PC but not managed to keep a single copy of the game! Same with Red Dead Redemption, I finished it on both consoles and somehow managed to trade one copy in and give another copy away.

The Xbone DRM would have perhaps helped you there.

I think there were some storyline leaks due to them allowing parts of it to be downloaded early - don't look it up though, it might contain spoilers. They probably have stopped the pre-release download because of this - although thats just my assumption.
