hi guys ive got 2 hardware labs black ice 280 rads and im using cheap nzxt fans to cool them
however im looking to upgrade them to some better and more compatible fans for my specific rad

i dont mind what they cost as long as they work well for my rad.

any ideas?

cheers

Any 120mm fan sold by computer suppliers will fit.

Don't expect anything significant to change by swapping the fans unless they are badly made, faulty or excessively slow or fast for use in a pc.

Increased cooling -> increased fan speed -> increased airflow -> increased noise

That more or less sums it up.

So buying a faster fan then lowering the speed to make it quieter doesn't give you the same cooling with less noise. Just less cooling with less noise.

The main selling point of fans is what they look like.

The actual fiddling with changing blade shapes, frame shapes, adding lights is trivial but gives companies something new and shiny to sell at a premium over standard "black fans".

I'm not too concerned with noise it's more so that I've been told its best to have certain fans with the correct pressure not the rpm, I'm not overly fussed with fancy looking fans so long as they work best on my rad to get maximum efficiency out of it and open full cooling potential
Thanks for the advice

Hi, l have a 560 rad[60mm thick] using 4x140 Zaward 900rpm fans cooling a i7 920:4.2ghz+6970:9501350mhz temps are good and yours is the basicly equal that 2x280=560

What are you going to cool altogether and which black ice 280 rads are they?

its a Hardware Labs Black ICE Radiator GT Xtreme 280.
im cooling a i5 3570k at 4.6ghz, 2 gtx 660ti's, 4 2gb corsair vengance ram and a maximus vs formula mb.
the temps are good my i5 at full load is only 72c and my gtx 660ti's at full load are only 41c

i just want to optomise every thing i can to get full potential, if i can keep the water even cooler by changing the fans then i will

i was thinking theese Phanteks PH-F140TS, 140mm Premium Fan Red

140mm Phanteks PH-F140TS_RD, 1200rpm, 78.1CFM, 19dB, Premium Red Case Fan

Very nice temps, my i7 920:4.2ghz + 6970:95/1350mhz, during the hot spell CPU core's never went over 60'c + GPU 50'c and my fans are set to pull[quieter] not push.

But l have a set off Prolimatech Blue Vortex Blue Wings 140mm Fans, which have a greater air flow compared to the Zaward 9000rpm fans -

If your not in a hurry l'll try them and see how they perform against my Zawards in the next couple of days.:)

im still looking to lower the volts on the cpu to bring the temp down further but had to wait for gpu waterblocks to be delivered so i could install them then start to test the pc with temps, they where 670 waterblocks from ek and there literally never in stock so that was a long wait haha.

ive set my fans to pull to because luckily that works best in my case because of space but on the top rad im actually using 2 200mm fans that came with the case so ill need to upgrade them but im not looking to buy right now anyway i want to make sure i get the perfect ones

LoL, going sli 670[Asus 670 DCII 4GB] my self hope to get the blocks this week.

You shouldn't have a problem getting blocks for them I've seen a few in stock in most places but the FC 670 blocks seem to be a rareaty lol only ever 1 in stock so had to wait like 3 weeks for my sli lol

Which type of fan absolutely does make a difference when we're talking radiators as static pressure becomes an issue. The xtreme rads are thick ones aren't they? If so you need a fan with high static pressure otherwise the free flow airflow statistics will not apply in you situation.

Which exact rads are they? SR1's or GT xtremes?

I ask because there's a fair difference in fin density between them.

ED: sorry, just actually read the thread :o Xtremes it is.

Hi, the Asus 670 DCII 670 has a custom pcb when l searched just over 2 weeks ago for FC blocks, nobody had them only reference pcb.

Got them on pre-order and still waiting for them.:(
