Do you think the death penalty would stop the majority of murders being committed

Yup, look at the USA for an example of this, their murder rate is tiny compared to the rest of the world, which is perfect evidence of the fact the the death penalty stops the majority of murders being committed.

Would it reduce it? maybe at a minor %, if people had clear knowledge that if you commit this crime, IE murder, WILL get the death penalty no two ways about it.

Would it stop it? probably not

In 2011 the murder rate in America was 4.7 per 100,000 citizens. In the UK in 2011 the rate was 1.0 per 100,000 citizens.

America has much more of a gang culture in quite a few area's.

Thats without all the school/public shootings.

I think it would but i don't think it's the right punishment, there's always going to be mistakes, what if they catch the wrong killer, you can't be 100% right every time on who it was.
Also i don't think "an eye for an eye" is the best strategy.
I think they should just make prisons harder places to live.
Ok they're not the nicest of places, but, make them a bit more like the outside world, make them work really hard for their food for example.

Maybe,

I don't know can you repeat the question.

You're not the boss of me now!

On topic:

‘Do you really think all this deters crime, Mr Trooper?’ he said.
‘Well, in the generality of things I’d say it’s hard to tell, given that it’s hard to find evidence of crimes not committed,’ said the hangman, giving the trapdoor a final rattle. ‘But in the specificality, sir, I’d say it’s very efficacious.’
‘Meaning what?’
‘Meaning I’ve never seen someone up here more’n once, sir.

I dont think it would but if someone gets LIFE in jail why should we pay to keep them there, the death penalty could still be a good thing

Nope. People would just go to even more trouble to hide the evidence, or get someone else to do it for them.

And whilst there are deaths in this country owing to murders, most are generally down to gang disputes. And those that are not, are either crimes of passion, or manslaughter. Those that are truly premeditated murders are pretty rare (thankfully) and even then I do not believe that taking a life is a suitable response.

You are aware people spend just as long on death row in the US as they would for a life sentence here so that's a bit of a moot point.
