*** iPhone 5S/5C - September 10th ***

As a 4S owner I'm still impressed with the phone.

But watching the marketing guy talk about the 5C made me cringe. They really did drink too much company cool-aid. "Wow, a single bit of plastic".

However, it's clear from the comments in this thread they won't have problems selling either the 5C or 5S, people will lap it up regardless.

For me, I've no idea why anyone would spend so much to upgrade from even the 4S which still feels solid and quick.... and you get IOS7 soon!

The 5C will most likely run smoother then the S4 too. Android is improving all the time, but I noticed even in one of the latest Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 hands-on videos there is still micro-stuttering every now and then, and that thing has 8 cores and 3GB of RAM! Let's not kid ourselves, regular users aren't going to be flashing Cyanogen Mod or any other third party ROMs onto it to improve that.

I don't doubt that at all. It's one of the best things about the iphone. My 4S was smoother than my S3. I want to really like the 5C, I just wish it was a bit cheaper.

Really, all Apple have done is align the iphone price with a high-end android phone.

Actually, what I find interesting is what are they going to do next year?

Normally, and historically they relegate the last generation (and the one before) phone at £100 cheaper and sell that as an entry phone, this is the first time they have actually removed the old phone entirely from the line up as it does not exist.

So...in 12 months' time. Will the 5C stay? Will the 5S get bump down and they introduce another new phone? with a bigger screen?

Unless they put the 5S tech into a 5C and scrap the 5S shape permanently.

To be expected really. It'll be very interesting to see how the new new Nexus' are priced and speced. Apple could have caused some ripples with the 5C but its jut meh.

I assume the 5S becomes 6C and the flagship phone will be the iPhone 6.

5C will sell, just like the 3G and 3GS still sold bucket loads when the 4 came out. Just like the 4 and 4S still sell bucket loads now even though they are years old.

What do people think will be the going price for an unlocked 16GB 5 in a couple of weeks? I don't have a backup phone so although I know I lose a few quid I won't be selling the 5 till I've synced everything to my 5S.

I'd like to see the 5C slowly become cheaper and evolve into a replacement to the ipod touch, which is pretty much an iphone that can't make calls. That would free up the flag-ship iphone to get bigger and take on the world!:p it also ties in nicely to the ever increasing number of people switching to sim only contracts.

We must be coming to the point where a hefty % of the population just aren't bothered about upgrading to each and every increment. We are spoiled as it is.

Bit of a fail on Apple part on the 5C prices, they had a real opportunity to lure some new customers by producing a low price phone. They aren't going to do that with a overpriced 5C and a spec bumped 5S.

Part of me thinks the whole "C" range was created because people whined too much about a lack of affordability.

When it's time for the iPhone 6, they're going to have to put the guts of the 5S in to the 6C and market the 6 as new and improved, all singing and dancing model with a new design.

I'm not saying it's going to be hard, but it's not exactly elegant. Something they fell foul of in the nineties when they had 1214142 product ranges.

They could just as easily have put the new 5S internals in to the coloured casings with the fingerprint sensor, and dropped the price on the 5. Considering the price of the 5C, they can't exactly market it as an affordable option.

I was considering getting a 5C for the wife.. Forget that!

/Looks at my iPhone 4 !

A friend is on iPhone 3S.

exactly! There are loads of people with £200 ipods. A £300 iphone 5C would be the ultimate device. I'd buy one tomorrow just for the hell of it. Unless some fundamental tech comes along, I can't see how the 5C wouldn't be more than enough for a good few years, especially as it has 4G just on the start of that happening (still no 4G here).

Apparently you need the latest iTunes to install - Windows doesn't have a beta version available but if you're on Mac (and registered dev) you should be able to get a beta.

I imagine Apple will make a lot more profit per phone from those who buy the 5C. It's almost as much as the 5S but runs on last years hardware with the exception of a cheaper to produce plastic case.
