My old system had an FX-4100 overclocked @4.8-.5Ghz as it was all i could afford at the time.
This paired with my Gigabyte 7970 Ghz Edition was able to play everything i wanted, i had a few problems in regards to cpu intensive games like Bf3 multi/Arma, but even then the lowest fps was around 35 in huge explosions etc that would soon settle @ 50-70fps averages on 64 player maps.
If it's all you can get, it'll do the job!
But since upgrading to my current rig i can see why people will say it's a poor cpu, even with the 6950 in my current build, my fps are averaging around the same if not higher due the fx4100 bottlenecking the 7970, but my minimum and max fps are 2-3-times as much as they were on the Fx-4100.
Games feel so much better in terms of smoothness and fluidity and while the Fx-4100 does the job alright @4.8-5Ghz, This 4770K obliterates it even at stock, i know you can't compare the two but thought it would be good to share my experiences going from a budget cpu to the 4770K.
