gtx 670 2gb or 4gb

I could return the 670 and stick with my 7850 until the new GPUs are out (that'd be the most sensible thing to do). Just losing out on the current 7950/7970 deals could turn out disappointing. I guess getting the 680 would be a bit silly when I'd want to replace it within 6 months.

Exactly. I'm always changing my gpu.
 
reviving out of curiosity as no one can still give a definite answer between a 2gb and 4gb 670

the difference is £14...is that worth it for more future proofing/ability to add more screens etc when funds allow it
 
I hear the 2gb runs faster then the 4gb. I think Kaap can explain it better then I can.

If it does it wont be by much. I'd like to see it explained why.

I recall it has something to do with the memory timings on the used VRAM. The 2GB Vram versions seem to have tighter/faster memory timings than the 4GB versions which pr standard give betterperformance. However it also helps explain why the 4GB cards are good OC'ers. Lower timings usually means a higher OC tolerance.

I've got a 770 4GB version sat right here. Pity I don't also have the 770 2GB version to bench it against and put the theory to the test.

Don't believe it folks. Still comes down to luck of the draw. Had this debate many times over. Then one day Bru decided to ask 8pack who kinda knows more than anyone here about this.

don't mean to hijack this post but if I am going for an nvida card should I go for 670 or something in the 700 series?(budget 200)

Yes luck has to do a lot too. But were also talking stock vs stock performance where on at least GTX 670 models the 2GB version continuously have been slightly faster than 4GB models. The same pictures was seen when comparing GTX 660Ti 2GB vs GTX 660Ti 3GB... And also more than a decade ago where GeForce 2 GTS 32MB would beat out GeForce 2 GTS 64MB slightly at that time lower resolutions (1024x768). People modifing BIOS's and using hex editors back then confirmed the latency settings were different on the 32mb vs 64mb cards. I remember trying it myself - almost blowing a GF 2 MX 64mb when using a 32mb BIOS.:rolleyes: - a lot of trial and error for me back then :p

I primarily focus on stock settings since once you move past this it's about luck... and how exactly do you explain luck scientifically and measure it.
