Slow forum. Occasionally unresponsive. Just me?

I haven't touched forums in a few years no :p. And then vB was the bees knees. The last forum I migrated the companies made it near impossible to migrate it from one software to another (it was free software however).

I may be easy to customise but it's soo locked down its unbelievable (was when I touched it, that is) all you could change was the colours, nothing else.

So... you must have looked at it from when it was pre-alpha or something?

From day 1 of being publicly available, the entire template and styling system was 100% accessable and alterable... if it wasn't available in one of the extensive stylevar options, it was done via altering the template css, or by adding it to the EXTRA.css file if you wanted to keep the template files stock, and keep all your custom changes in 1 location ;)

Come on... have you actually realy tried xenForo?

See you claim vB isn't easily customised yet adding a CSS file or editing the current one isnt simple to the average Joe, anyone that can do CSS can do a bit of PHP and HTML. The last time I touched it would have been release, around £70 if I recall so much cheaper than vB

We're not going to switch to XenForo guys, sorry :p

Yet :D Give it time :p

By the time I had come to the end of working with vBulletin I hasn't installed their last 15 patches, because I knew even a minor patch meant *hours* of fixing a broken style. It was so bad I wanted to close down my forums because the thought of installing a vbulletin patch made me sick to my stomach.

XenForo on the other hand... in the recent *major* update of 1.2.0... it took less than 30 minutes to fix everything. Which included a large number of template, and editor changes.

You don't need to update vB every patch though aslong as you find one with no exploits and has all the features you need it's ok, like this forum for example. Ill admit vB lost their edge and they know that as for releasing all their CMS crap.

Well, we all know what vbulletins recent security history has been like... and leave it there :D

So Maccy, does a reverse lookup on the IP address which kindai is connecting to forum resolve to the XenForo marketing department ...? :p

And to stay on topic, the forum is working ok for me but I have been suffering from weird routing issues all day on BT effecting getting to some Google services (including DNS which was causing random timeout issues till I switched over to OpenDNS). For example I can't currently get to www.google.com but can to www.google.co.uk (on multiple machines running different OSes and browsers).

This keeps cropping up and the same jokes keeps appearing but nobody seems to answer why.

Any mod/don/underboss or superduper versions of the for mentioned care to give serious answer? My inner curiosity is interested

The most common cause of the "unexpected database error" followed by it working shortly after is hitting the mysql max connections limit.

Whatever needs to be done, if it costs a few pennies and you need a donation guys, let me know. I'm only too happy to contribute to a community I've enjoyed being part of for so long now.

**** hosts that's why. :)

Wasn't in the last 4 years or so, or at least what I can remember but saying that, I wasn't active on it until the last few years. I just don't remember it being bad until this year.

Forum definitely needs an upgrade.

So does the graphics. Feels like 2000. Nearly most modern forums has lovely subtle pastel graphics.
