Whats the best one to get for overclocking an 8350?
For the different price ranges as well

Thats great. thanks very much :)
I may well have an upgrade in the near future then :)

The Sabertooth R2.0 is extremely popular as an overclocking board. It's a bit cheaper than the Crosshair Formula Z. The UD3 is ok, as long as you get rev 4 (rev 3 cannot even guarantee support for 4.4GHz). Otherwise all the Asus and Gigabyte 990FX boards are certified to run the CPUs at 4.7GHz or better.

Its the UD3 that I keep looking at, but they seem to be rev 3 and as said I would like rev 4. Would there be much difference between that and the sabertooth? Both for overclocking and general performance?

The Sabertooth is brilliant, recommended everywhere. It's a bit ugly...

Don't get the rev 3 if you want to overclock - well, don't get that rev at all, as there are comparable boards at the same price that have no problem. I've not seen reviews for the rev 4, but since it supports the 9590 (at 4.7 - 5GHz), it will overclock ok.

I'd go for the Asus 990FX Pro, Asus Sabertooth, Gigabyte UD3 rev 4, or Gigabyte UD5. The Crosshair is the best, but it's not cheap.

The Rev3.0 are fine, I have used them myself and got good results when testing.

If you worried about it then go for the UD5.

Rev 3 has a problem, that's why they're not certified to run AMD's higher clocked CPUs, but I've had this conversation with stulid before, and he won't back down. Avoid it, or get rev 4, as I said.

OK thankyou both for your great advice :)

No problem.

With the UD3 if you use BIOS FDc and disable APM then its solid.

Of course do in sure you have good cooling for the CPU too.

Here is a UD3 rev3.0 with a FX8350 running Prime solid for a bit,

It was spot on as expected.

Teppic is wrong and the fact it doesnt support a much more power hungry CPU has no baring on a FX8350

It does when you're talking about overclocking an 8350, which is precisely the question. The UD3 rev.3 doesn't support Piledriver even at 4.4GHz according to Gigabyte.

Is an arctic cooler 13 good enough?

The minimum cooler for ~4.5GHz overclocks is something like a Coolermaster Hyper 212 - lots of people can run stable with that. If you want higher you'll need something better to keep temps down.

No.

It doesnt support the FX9370 and 9590, both 220W TDP chips.

The 8350 is a 125w TDP chip and is supported and runs fine and I have used/tested it myself.

The Rev4.0 brings support for 220W FX chips and a new USB VIA VL805.

The 9370 is precisely the same as an 8350 overclocked. There is no way that an 8350 running at 9370 clocks uses 125W only. As I've said before, there are plenty of reports of the 8350 throttling on rev 3 boards as well.

But as I said above, we've had this conversation before and it's clear you're not going to change your mind. If you test an 8350 running 100% stable with no throttling on a rev 3 board overclocked at above 4.4GHz, then feel free to post the results.

I would be much happier with a rev 4 although OC's dont have it yet. But then if I have to buy a new cooler as well, intel is starting to look more favourable

And I have told you it is peoples insufficient cooling of their FX cpu that is causing throttling.

I had 4.5Ghz stable when I had it.

I have posted the only screenshot I have saved of a FX8350 and the same board.
