I would be much happier with a rev 4 although OC's dont have it yet. But then if I have to buy a new cooler as well, intel is starting to look more favourable
So you dont have the CPU yet?
Is this going to be a gaming PC?

And I have told you it is peoples insufficient cooling of their FX cpu that is causing throttling.
How do you know this? Throttling is often caused by overheating VRMs, which is precisely what many people have said, that they've had throttling with the CPU temps being absolutely fine.
I see both your points
I know this because I have used these parts, have you?
The CPU will throttle back at around 70c I believe it was, this isnt hard to reach with a poor heatsink and overclock.
Well thanks guys, we can leave it hereI see both your points
Yeah it is gaming and media, I have a 7970 and a FX6300 at the moment, hence I was after a motherboard for now to run my 6300 then update to probably an 8350 later
It's obsoleted now by the improved rev 4 anyway.Well thanks guys, we can leave it hereI see both your points

I've used an 8350 and Asus board, and experienced no throttling, like others. The board will throttle a CPU regardless of CPU temps if the VRMs are overheating. Are you saying that Gigabyte improved the VRM thermal design on rev 4 so that it would help with CPU cooling then?
Yeah they are the choices I am thinking, I was planning to keep as I am for a while, but I keep getting the upgrade itch lol
So you have never used a Gigabyte AM3+ board?
The Rev4.0 has a improved PWM design to support 220W TDP FX CPU's and a new USB controller that is it.
No, since I've read no reports of VRM throttling on Asus boards, while I've read loads of reports on the UD3 board. The massive heat pipe on the VRMs in rev 4 makes it quite clear it's addressing overheating problems. There's absolutely no point in discussing this further, you've made your stance clear and I have mine. I've emailed Gigabyte tech support for clarification about the revisions and overclocking 8350s.
Yeah I have read those threads, people certainly get quite erm keen on the subject. That was swaying me to get the motherboard now tbh so I could upgrade the processor later and its not all 1 big expense. As the next AMD and intel chips seem to be quite a way off
Good, drop it then.

I hate the way they always keep it such a secret until it is released, makes buying before hand a nightmare!
